“Great trek with stunning views at summit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

Brilliant day out, get some good trainers or hiking boots on, you don't want to be hiking up this in your flip flops as there are some rugged volcanic rocks.

Take a good camera with you for breathtaking views of auckland at the top of the volcano.

It will take you roughly 45 minutes to get to the summit.

Don't forget water ;)

Ferry departs every hour or so from auckland terminal.

“Hot and sticky but worth it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

We had a great day here. The children found the walk a challenge but were super proud of themselves when they made it and we were rewarded with great views. The lava fields were v interesting and a dip in the pool certainly brought smiles to lots of faces.

“Great walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

This is a great adventure that you don't need to be too fit for. We recently did a full day on the island and walked a few of the tracks which was hard as it was a sunny day and the island is hotter due to the black lava rocks that attract the sun. Wear proper walking shoes and take plenty of water as there is no where to buy water on the island. Also take sun screen and cover up as you will be in the sun most of the day if it is a sunny day and it is hard to keep cool due to the lack of shelter in some places. Also take a picnic but what ever you take you will need to bring back as there are no rubbish bins on the island.

“Rangitoto - still a gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Quite a long time since I've been to Rangitoto Island but still a fun day.

It's a fair hike to the summit but the views of Auckland are worth it - amazing panoramic views of Auckland and it's surrounds, particularly if you get a clear day like we did.

Don't forget to bring plenty of water and a packed lunch as you can't purchase anything on the island itself.

“We'll worth the effort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

Rangitoto is a great 1/2 or full day adventure to do on your own or with the family. An easy 1 hour walk up with a 5 and 8 year old and the kids were back down in 25 minutes and ready for a swim in the sea.

We caught the 9.15 Fullers ferry and had a coffee on the way over enjoying the harbour, they do a 7.30am trip as well but a bit early to get the family there.

Would recommend taking lots of snacks if taking the kids and going in the morning if it's a hot day as even though there is lots of canopy cover from the trees it really heats up on the island
