“Not what it used to be, but still pretty good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

So growing up in South Auckland, as kids we used to get taken here by dad for the weekly vegetable and fruit shopping. Great memories, a lot of good bits and pieces could be purchased, and in today's climate of tough economics, all the more reason for people to actively ditch their local supermarket and support the local grower.

I've been here many times over the last 25 years or so, and am alittle saddened to see more junk getting sold here - lots of 2nd hand refuse, sunglasses, tie-dyed clothes...bit of a shame, but at the end of the day, the market dictates so it will sort itself oof the markets - the food --get yourself some fresh fish at a reasonable price!!

“I love the Otara Market!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

This market is a great mix of local art and craft, Polynesian culture, fresh produce, and the usual cheap Chinese manufactured junk. It's fun, it's lively, it's colorful, it's anything but dull.

There are a couple of Maori bone carving booths that are just fantastic--head and shoulders above the mass produced $10 fish hook stands (which are also present at the market). You'll know these carvers when you see their work--amazing pieces of art!

“Fresh Food abounds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

A great mix of your usual mass produced cheap crap and some wonderful local handcrafts and a stunning array of local produce!
We purchased a bag of fruit for our weekend, all fresh and delish.
We found a local woodworker - Warren, who we not only purchased two artworks he had made the night prior, but also commissioned a piece to have shipped home to Australia for an anniversary. The detail he asked about the family line, deceased, living, male, female was amazing - the detail will tell the story of the family and he took great care to tell us about it. We can't wait for it to come!
