“Great Location, friendly service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2011

Stayed 3 nights from Friday to Monday.
Check in was very freindly and effecient as was all our dealings with the reception staff!
Our room, 1212, was very roomy , the bathroom dated but clean, the bed very comfy and we had lovely view of the harbour in between the buildings out of both windows,
The resteraunt on the floor above was nice, it has a stunning view which helps it and the food is quite good considering it's a hotel. The wait staff were wonderful which made all the difference!
The breakfast was what is was, although I do object to having to pay extra for an expresso, as although the machine they use has an expresso button there were no expresso cups available!
We dialed room service around 1am on the Sunday morning, no reply any of the 3 times I called, but the recpetion answered after my second attempt. ( albeit , the same person same phone I suspect at that time of night) we ordered 2 toasted sammies , and they arrive cold half an hour later and as they had run out of the salad for the side, the guy had given us one a plate of ice cream! Nice gesture, however it didn't really go with our order and there was only one spoon! lol
All up this hotel I found to be good value, wonderful central location and convient to all we wanted to do, it also has free wi fi in the lobby for half an hour., and we would definately stay again!

We Check in very early in the morning, that was really nice of them to provide a room
immediately. We had a long flight so to tired and fell asleep. The Next night, the room
air condensing was not working so made a complain but nothing was done, instead the advice o open the windows and brought an old fan from the kitchen, how disgusting.
The room too was not as seen on the wedsite, very poor furnishings, when ask if they had
a better room, we shown similar but bigger room. Stayed 5 nites, but not one nite we slept well. I checked again while in Auckland their website, and the rooms shown were still the nicer ones. So much for being an Accor Member! I have taken the pictures of the room .

Found the hotel to be ok, Needs a make over, Resturant was very nice food and service great.

Would recommend to a friend for the purpose of somewhere to stay, Would not recommend if the hotel was going to be the attraction of the trip.

Had 2 nights here prior to picking up our Motorhome for a month long trip in NZ.
Comfortable room, not massive, but was adequate dor what we needed.
Fairly jet lagged when we arrived, so decided just to get a light meal locally rather than eat at the hotel on the first night. Fish and chips in a pub. just about managed to not fall asleep in my beer.
Had breakfast in the restaurant both mornings. It's on the top floor giving some great views of the harbour. Buffet breakfast with very good selection.
Based on the good breakfast, decided to eat there on the 2nd night - a good decision. Had a very nice meal. Starter was fairly small, a bit 'Nouvelle Quisine' but very tasty. Main course was certainly adequate. I was glad the starter had been small. Very pleasent evening. with good service.
During the day did a boat trip in the harbour, and the tourist bus. Could have done with more time to explore the areas visited by the bus, but the services does not run very late, and we did not exactly make an early start.

We were supposed to go directly to Christchurch, but the earthquake forced us to stay in Auckland the fist night of our month-long vacation. Our travel agent suggested this hotel until she could figure out something more suitable for us. The hotel itself was very ordinary and a touch outdated, but it was clean and the staff was great. Since we'd been traveling for 18 hours, they put a rush on our room so we could get checked in at 11AM. The housekeepers were friendly and the front desk clerk even gave me a code for an hour of free internet usage. The hotel has a good location in the city center, only 2 blocks from the harbor and the Britomart train station. There is a 24-hour cafe with Wifi across the street, which was very handy since my husband and I both needed to be working starting at 3AM the next morning. (Internet usage is very expensive in Auckland hotels). There are tons of shops and cafes within blocks of the hotel. I recommend Vulcan street for cafes, which intersects with Queen street.

This is one of two Mercure-branded hotels in the capital of NZ.

It is located in the city center at a corner of Queen Street. A large shopping mall (Westfield) is opposite the hotel, it is only a short walk to the harbour either.

The large building itself is not really nice but the lobby and common areas are renovated and in good condition. The rooms however are not renovated, the condition is ok but not outstanding and the design seems a bit outdated. Due to the streets around the hotel it might get noisy, also in the room.

If you can get a good rate (I paid around NZD 80) this hotel is a good pick, but with rates of NZD 200 or more it is sometimes overpriced!
