The service by the staff was slightly above average.

The room felt very old. The first room that was assigned to me on the 6th floor had a broken shower mixer knob. I immediately called reception and was told that the hotel was fully booked and thus they were unable to give me another room. They sent someone up to check the shower and after confirming that the knob was beyond repair, he went downstairs and returned after a while to say that we've been moved to another room one level below. (Guess the hotel is not so fully booked after all?) The air conditioning unit was noisy. There wasn't much sound proofing as I could even hear the next door unit flushing their toilet, not to mention the street noises from below.

In addition, the lifts made loud noises when they moved up and down which were audible even in the room. The lifts also felt unstable whenever they opened their doors.

The valet parking was also very expensive (NZD40 per night). It was mentioned that I had to call 20 minutes prior before leaving so that my car would be driven to the front. But even after I called, I was asked to wait for another 10 minutes and was even questioned if I had called earlier to collect my car! The staff also bumped and scratched the rear bumper of my car on the last day. At least the duty manager admitted fault and claimed that they would call the car rental company to settle the issue.

I guess the only saving grace was the hotel's location.

Friendly front desk, An older hotel, with nice rooms, good security. Had to use your key card to use elevator. We had a room with a nice harbor view. We stayed two nights. There was some street noise the first night from loud people down on the street. The location is across the street from a shopping mall, and close to restaurants and shops. Close to train station, cruise ship terminal, and ferry terminal. Walking distance to the downtown marina area.

Booked this hotel for my husband's 30th birthday I booked 2 rooms through Booking.com which appointed one room for 2 adults and the other for our son who's 11. I also made a note on the special request field, indicating that interconnecting rooms where required.

We arrived at the hotel to check in, my son with a head injury, he was bleeding, holding an icepack to his head and with a slight concussion, I was not asked at any point whether I needed any assistance or if he was ok, I was told that there were no rooms available and that we had to have separate ones or pay for an upgrade for 2 harbour view rooms resulting in an extra $120 for the stay.

A lot more shocking things happened after this which I've detailed in an email to the general manager and I'm waiting for a response, but generally shocking customer service from the on duty manager Kimberly.

But back to the hotel review, service aside the rooms are in dire need of renovating, and these were the ones we had to pay extra for so who knows what the standard ones look like. All in all this hotel is NOT to 4 star standard at all, yes its centrally located and the views from the restaurant are lovely but it is not value for money and there are much nicer and cheaper options in the city with the same location, so save yourself the feeling of staying in a Travel Lodge and stay somewhere else!
