Having just spent a month away from home travelling through NZ, Aachen house was the perfect way to start our holiday after the long and tiring 24 hour flight from London to Auckland.

I liked the fact that it was slighty out of town (10 min drive - no where's far in NZ!). The place is really looked after and has a homely feel to it. The beds were huge and very comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and the breakfast excellent - easily one of the best we enjoyed during the 4 weeks! It's description as a boutique hotel is spot on.

The owner (Joan) actually lives next door which is part of the same building but there are separate entrances. The pride she and her staff take in making people feel welcome is very obvious, we were very well looked after, though never intrusively - it was as if we had arrived in our own home rather than someone else's. Having returned from a day out exploring the city, we sat in the garden and she brought complimentary drinks of our choice - this would not happen elsewhere without it appearing on your bill at the end of your stay!

We recommend heading out for a walk at sunrise up the hillside at the end of the road for a great view of Auckland and the surrounding area.

Great Place shame the stay was very Short!

We absolutely loved this place. Joan was fabulous. We came in around noon, and she had coffee waiting for us.We flew in from Shanghai, and we were exhausted. We let her know ahead of time, and our room was ready for us, to take a brief rest. That evening, we had a perfect glass of wine and headed out to the harbor. Joan's suggestions were wonderful. The house itself is amazingly beautiful with all of Joan's finds. The room was meticulous and breakfast superb. I am still talking about the lobster omelette. While this is a B&B, it seems like an Inn. We took the bus which had a stop around the corner, to the Harbor and Parnell. It was so easy, just don't forget to stick your hand out to the bus driver, otherwise, he will keep going. We recc. this place to everyone since we had such a great experience.

Aachen House is in Market Rd, a short car trip to central Auckland. Indeed if you were keen at walking, you can get to Remuera, Newmarket and Parnell shops on foot - but its several km to Parnell. There is also a small cluster of antique shops in Great South Rd just a few hundred metres away, and you can catch a commuter train to central city (or other parts of Auckland) at the Remuera station just before those shops. Its also easily reached from the airport.
Aachen is a grand house with nine rooms and suites, all en suites, immaculately furnished, maintained, and managed. With its own garden and off-street parking it is an excellent location for an Auckland holiday. We could not fault the welcome or the service; meal times are flexible to suit; meals were excellent; and rooms are generous in size and with all facilities. Beds are large and comfortable; there is a practical work table/desk, and elsewhere in the hotel are a lounge, conservatory-style dining, and an outdoor gazebo. It was a pleasure to stay here and we will certainly do so again.
