“Christmas Eve to 2 January 2013 Sebel 'Get Away' in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Trish and Ian
Location, location, location at its very best. We live on Aucklands North Shore and we like to holiday in the city, what more could we ask for and it only takes us 10 minutes to drive home. We travel overseas extensively and the Sebel Suites are as good as anywhere in the world. You have everything at your fingertips, sea views, boating, fishing, wine estates, brilliant bars, cafes and restaurants, heaps of entertainment and all forms of transport available within walking distance.Management and front desk staff extremely helpful at all times. Our suite was as always, modern and so very comfortable and housekeeping staff always professional and polite. Swimming pool and fitness centers close by.
We are looking at returning for Easter and again Christmas 2013.

Room Tip: We love the corner suites and higher floors

Stayed here for only one night on a recent trip to Auckland. We had a one bedroom city view suite. Was amazed at how quite it was despite having main roads going directly past the complex. We were able to take advantage of its excellent location for afternoon drinks in the Wynyard Quarter and dinner in the Viaduct. Would certainly stay again.

Over all great location and reception very helpful. Disappointments include the overall cosmetic appearance was showing signs of being tired in condition, poor signage on exterior, we drove past twice trying to find it before we finally rang hotel to clarify where they actually are, two ranchslids with entry to the balcony one was hard to open and the other wouldn't open plus the toilet cistern continually dripped water. We did inform reception on checkout and guess these have been repaired? Being the evening of New Year's Eve we felt it unlikely that these issue could be fixed hence told reception on checkout. No restaurant or bar but no problem as at the exit into a viaduct there are plenty to choose from. May stay again but wouldn't be my first choice.

We had an overnight stop here twice, at the beginning and end of our holiday.
Marina view suite
Very comfortable bed and pillows and bathroom/shower more than adequate. Washing machine/tumble dryer in cupboard (and complimentary powder) was appreciated.
Although we were directly above the harbour restaurants and it was getting close to Xmas, once in the suite we certainly weren't aware of any noise problems.
Breakfast available in nearby restaurants (room service is available)
Wifi is expensive so it is better to go to the nearby cafe or Bar to use their free Wifi.

Room Tip: Marina view and a higher floor is best

I have stayed at the Sebel Suites many times. The location can't be beaten, close to the Viaduct restaurants and bars and Queen Street just a 5 minute walk away.
Service is always efficient.

It might be an idea for the owners to invest a bit in maintaining and refreshing the bathrooms, but this is a minor quibble.

Room Tip: The rooms with the best view over the water can be a bit noisy - particularly at weekends....

I stayed at the Auckland Sebel on Customs West Street for one week. Apart from one or two nit picky things I really can't find anything that would stop be booking here again.

First the bad, and these are not show stoppers. Quality of room service depended very much on who was cleaning your room. For the first 4 days it was nothing short of perfect service with everything clean and put back perfectly in its place. For the next three (with a change of shift after the weekend I guess) things were missed like not replacing all used towels or failing to top up supplies that had been used. There was also a small amount of sound transmission from the corridor, usually doors slamming by early risers, but nothing that was disturbing.

The hotel was crisp and generally in a good state of repair with some signs of wear and tare, but nowhere near as bad as an average 4 to 4.5 star Sydney hotel. But some "admin" issues were missed - like a remote with flat batteries and the audio-visual unit with incorrect cable connections - nothing that wasn't easily fixed.

The Sebel was also light on for "in-hotel" services too - no pool or gym and you had to pay a heavy toll to use the internet - but it made up for that with location and a plethora of harbour side restaurants.

Aside from these niggles the stay was comfortable and pleasant with the staff being helpful when approachable with a good general standard of service... and if you took the trouble to strike up a conversation they were more than happy to share local knowledge that saved both time and money. Of course, the hotel's main draw card is it's location overlooking the viaduct and proximity to the action. It's an easy walk to most city attractions with the added advantage of being right next to all the charter boats and a short walk to the ferry. It's also on the right end of town for services and away from the rougher club district to the south east.

I booked a top floor apartment facing the water and that's exactly what I got. The view was pretty good and I even got to watch the America's cup challenger get it's work outs in clear view of the balcony. The apartment was relatively spacious with a comfortable and well appointed bedroom, a fully functioning kitchen, cupboard laundry and quite adequate lounge/dining areas. I have read that some people reported difficulty with noise from the street or the nearby pubs, but I found it to be within acceptable limits and the sliding doors, windows and curtains did an adequate job of managing the noise from the pubs and restaurants below.

Room Tip: Don't catch the cabs waiting at the viaduct or at the airport! Expect to loose (and I mean loos...

We had our office christmas party over the weekend and decided to make a weekend of it and stayed at the Sebel Suites. The Sebel was literally right next door to the restaurant we were dining at so we were more than happy. The apartment was lovely, had everything you need, washing machine and dryer if you were in town for an extended amount of time. Immaculate and spotlessly clean. Very happy with the overall service. Look forward to going back in the new year.
