Auckland Zoo may be small but it is perfectly formed. It's a real pleasure to walk around with lots of native trees and plants along with all the usual animals you would expect to see with the added bonus of tiger cubs.
For a city zoo the enclosures are good and the animals seem well cared for. Having read the previous reviews I have to laugh - your kiwi encounter will be in the dark due to them being nocturnal birds... Don't be put off by this - it's worth trying your luck and seeing if they're awake. They also have keas and other NZ native birds and animals which is great.
If you're used to huge wildlife parks you may be a little disappointed but if you want to see some lovely animals in a relaxed and attractive environment minutes from the city centre then this is for you. It also has the added bonus of being next door to Western Springs Park where you can take your kids for a play in the park and feed the chickens and birds.
