“Heritage Hotel Hobson St Auckland”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2011

This hotel is in central Auckland close to CBD and Viaduct and ferries for going to North Shore etc. Friendly staff and clean room( but took till 4.30p.m. to have room serviced) and facilities. Roof top pool with great view (being repaired when we were there), also inside pool and gym.
Parking was $37.50 per day and concierge parked and retrieved car.
Room air conditioning was really inadequate and as a result couldn't sleep due to heat. Strangely the room seemed to cool down in the mid morning which made one suspect that the master control was put on very low over night. No amount of changing the in room control had any effect.
The Deluxe room we were in had a microoven, full oven with elements and very lfew untensil for food preperation. We could not even cut a loaf of bread as the only knife was an eating knife. Can't underdstand why hotels supply the hardware to cook with and fall short on the untensils.
Shower rose at my chest height and hot water pressure very low.
All in all and ok experience but I don't think I would return

Room Tip: Not facing the busy Hobson Street

Loved this hotel - have stayed on several occasions. Great facilities and super view of the Skytowel and the city generally. There's also a roof top pool and and indoor pool and small gym.

Room Tip: It is possible to get a bargain price by booking the hotel via the airport when you arrive.

Booked standard room online the day before our stay for two nights with free parking. When we arrived the clerk could find our reservation even though I had a booking confirmation number. Put us in an Excutive suite and promised to charge based upon original booking. Upon check out we were charged our original price even though upgraded. Parking is valet only and costs $35 so try to get the free parking deal. Floors are creaky but did not interrupt our sleep if neighbors walked around. We also had dinner at the hotel and food and service was just OK. Head to the viaduct for a good meal, plenty of choices.

I have stayed twice in the Heritage Towers (enter from Nelson St - not the Heritage Hotel in Hobson St but part of the same business). The location is very central to the CBD. The rooms aren't that big but I like how they have a kitchenette complete with small oven, microwave, cooktop, dishwasher, and laundry. Perfect for longer stays.

My room was facing another building so ask for a room with a view, it should be over the harbour which is only just down the road.

Very quiet rooms, clean and comfortable.

The gym was fairly small, only 1 cross trainer, 1 bike and 1 treadmill. However the day I used it at 6am there was only 1 other person there so I had no trouble getting onto equipment. There was a multi-station weights machine and some free weights. Also a lap pool and sauna.

I did not eat at the hotel so can't comment on that, There are some nice restaurants close by, even an Asian vegan one around the corner (I am vegetarian so this was most welcome!).

Check-in staff were friendly and helpful.

I would stay here again when next in Auckland.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the harbour - otherwise you might have a view of a neighbouring buildi...

we arrived at the heritage to be given the last room, directors suite, that was fine, although had to wait 2 hours in the lobby for a light to be fixed. only in auckland 2 days and wasted a whole afternoon to be put in a room. it was also our honeymoon and we were disappointed with the unhelpful manager on duty and were being told all sorts of storys as to why we could not enter our room, a very poor reception for the price we paid, also sent a letter back to them re our stay, still awaiting a reply, months later

Thank you for your response to your experience while staying with us back in February 2011. I have spent sometime investigating your concerns and while I cannot pinpoint your concerns in our guest response log reports I am always very keen to ensure that any part of our guest experience does not exceed their expectations we will address these at the time of stay. I have to date not received a letter as outlined in your posting and would be grateful if you can email me with your issues through our website and I would be delighted to respond to you. Thank you again for your response as it is only with guest feedback, good or highlighting areas that we can improve on will we reach excellent scores on posts such as this.

this is potentially a very nice hotel. The old building is very cool with big rooms, wooden floors and high ceilings. the new wing called the "tower" is like any other hotel with notihng that seperates it from the pack.
Its clean, tidy and convenient so its where i stay in auckland.

It's actually quite a nice hotel with friendly staff & in a convenient (if concrete dominated) location in the city.
Room 614 has obviously been used by a chain smoker and the complicated clock radio went off in the middle of the night twice - irritations that slightly compromised my ratings.
