“Great stay, at a great price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2006

We stayed three nights at the CityLife Auckland, at the conclusion of a three-week journey through Australia & New Zealand. We found this hotel a wonderful place to stay! Great kitchen, and laundry within the room! Quite a bonus after a long trip.
The location couldn't be better-right on Queen Street. Unlike some of the previous reviews, we experienced very good service. The staff worked hard to get us the room as soon as we arrived (10:00 AM). I do agree with other reviewers, however, that when it comes to asking for directions, the young staff, although very courteous, are not too knowledgeable. By no means should this discourage anyone from staying at the CityLife.
We originally booked online, and the prices were great. Our one bedroom suite had a huge king size bed, plus a queen sofa bed; the bathroom was spacious and it even had heated towel racks. The entire suite was immaculate, and all appliances were in perfect working order. I would heartily recommend, and would definitely stay here again.

On a recent trip to Auckland I stayed at CityLife Hotel. Firstly, the location couldn't be better. It is right in the heart of Auckland on Queen Street (The main street) only a few blocks from the harbour and shopping is at your feet.

First impressions were really good, there is a spacious lobby and nice restraunt/bar as you enter and the staff were very friendly. I booked a two bedroom apartment which was great, it was like a single hotel room joined to a 1 bedroom apartment by interconnecting door - it had two bathrooms and plenty of space in the kitchen lounge. One thing that suprised me was that it was serviced everyday by maids which is unusual for an apartment, so that was handy.

One thing, I was told there were balconies for most rooms at the hotel, and I am not at all stretching the truth when I say you could just squeeze your legs in the gap between window and edge of balcony - it was tiny, not even worth it really. Though in saying that there was a good view of the Skytower from the window.balcony.

One tip that I found out - there is a carpark across from hotel which costs between $7-$15.00NZD per night where valet costs about $25-$30NZD. Park you car yourself!

2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2006

We stayed at the Citylife on Thursday February 10, 2006. We reserved a non-smoking deluxe suite at a rate of $179 inc GST (~$125 US). The hotel is located in the heart of the city off Queen Street. Unfortuantely most of the action is happening several blocks away at the Viaduct Harbour. The hotel itself was very well appointed and the service we received from the concierge was terrific. We arrived to our suite and to our disgust it stunk of cigarette smoke. We requested to be moved into a different suite. A gentleman arrived at our floor, provided us with the key to the new room and left without so much as assisting us or ensuring that the new room was sufficient. We arrived at our room on the 9th floor and it was very nice and spacious. The view was of the roof. The temperature in Auckland that day was quite stifling and upon returning to our room at 5pm we noticed how warm it had become. Our A/C was not functioning properly so we called the front desk to send up a serviceman. By 8pm, no one had showed so we went to dinner. Upon returning, we noticed that the problem had still not been addressed. We called yet again and someone arrived about 20 minutes later. The gentleman looked at the Thermostat and informed us that it didn't look like it was working and that he is not capable of repairing. He said that the hotel would be unable to move us or have someone fix it. Upon his gesture to leave, I asked for a fan and although he said he would try to find one, his expression implied that he was extremely inconvenienced. We did get a fan about 20 minutes later. That was the worst night of our entire 23 day stay. When we had arrived in Auckland several weeks earlier we had stayed at the Sebel Suites located at the Viaduct Harbour for a cheaper price and the accomodation and service far exceeded that at City Life. There are so many viable hotel options in Auckland that I would definitely not recommend this hotel.
