My wife and I and two other relatives stayed in two rooms at the New President for two nites prior to a cruise. Our first time in New Zealand. The New President isn't anything fancy but there isn't anything wrong with it and the location is perfect central Aukland, walking to everything. We'd stay there again.

New President Hotel Auckland

We stayed here for just one night, which frankly was enough! The hotel was clean enough but the room was very small. There was a small kitchen area in the hallway of the room as you walked in, so you had plenty of opportunity for teas/coffees, together with the usual shower and toilet. We don’t know Auckland at all and didn’t have time to look round much but it would seem that the hotel is not situated in a very nice part of the city, although it is within walking distance of the harbour. There are some shops around but you have to look hard for a nice restaurant and/or bar. If you are pushed for time and not particularly fussy, then go for it; otherwise I am sure there are nicer hotels to be found.

I have stayed in this hotel for four nights last week. Generally speaking, it is a centrally located hotel. You can have access to it from the airport by Airbus which stops on the opposite side of the road. Besides, you can also catch the Link Bus and the Free Inner City Bus right outside the hotel. There are a lot of shopping places and eateries nearby. Going back to the hotel itself, although it is rated as a 3-star hotel only, I find its facilities excellent, especially the kitchen equippment which enabled me to prepare my breakfast in my own room. The toilet, which is with shower only, is spacious with toiletries and hairdryer provided. Althougth it is a bit noisy at night when there are people enjoying themselves in the bungy ride across the road, this business closes at 10 pm after when you can have a good sleep. All in all, if I have a chance to go back to Auckland in the future, I will definitely choose this hotel again.

I was referred to the New President by the organizers of a professional conference I attended at a nearby hotel.

I've stayed at worse places. My flight to Auckland arrived early in the morning, well before check-in time. Aside from allowing me to check my bags, the staff were not especially helpful -- and since I was fresh off a red-eye from Los Angeles, it made for something less than the welcome I could have hoped for. My stay otherwise was unexceptionable, if also unexciting.

I'm not sure who this place is best suited for. Its location is convenient for most of central Auckland, and if you're traveling on a budget, the New President might do the trick for you. But if I ever head back to Auckland (which I hope happens someday!), I'll look for someplace else first.

  • Liked — Convenient city centre location.
  • Tips/Secrets — This will do in a pinch, but check other places first.

We stayed in Auckland for 10 days and the hotel was one of the few things about Auckland that was acceptable. To be honest, I did not like Auckland at all - if you are looking for good shopping, nightlife and tours then Auckland is NOT a good place to go.

However, for the "scenic" traveller this is a good City, and a good hotel to stay at. It is a normal 3* hotel - It is clean and receptionist was always friendly. There is not a resturant on site, but a nearby sister resturant will deliver food to the hotel room. The room was not too big, but it was comfortable enough. There are all the basic facilities that you will need including a convinience store right outside the hotel.

The location is as good as it gets in Auckland. It is a few steps away from Auckland CBD's main road - Queen Street. This street will have the majority of the citys department stores, food stores and the Cinema. The hotel is also a short walk from the Casino and the Harbour.

This hotel is average, but good enough. The location is probabaly the best in Auckland close to everything.

This is a reasonably priced hotel in a good location. The higher levels are better than the lower ones, which lack character and have interiors that are uninspiring. If budget and location count most, I would say that this hotel is a good choice.

After a long flight from the UK all we required from our first night in NZ was a comfortable bed, a good shower, a central location and somewhere to park the hire car at a reasonable price. We got all these at the New President. It will probably never win awards but it certainly did the job for us.
