“Worst dingey room ever! Yeuch!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2008

Dingey, yeuchy, cigarette smelling, dive that i would never recommend to anyone! Fantastic location but plenty of other hotels on the same street that we could have chosen!
Peeling paint, battered cheap furniture that was possibly donated, doors that jammed, lukewarm water and outside noise and rubbish smell. Greasy breakfast but pleasant staff!
Just arrived off the plane and travelled the two islands of NZ with stops in Aussie and Kuala Lumpar en route. Not a great start to wot turned out to be the best holiday ever....

We stayed at the President during March 08. The hotel was quite run down, the photo's on the website must be from one of the best rooms in the hotel as our room was nothing like that! Limited tv channels on the TV, certainly no SKY TV. The underground car parking is arkward to find the first time as it is accessed from a side road. The gym was a joke, a small room that could hold a maximum of three gym users at any one time. On the plus side the hotel is very close to the SKY Tower and also Queen Street for the shopping.

We stayed in a family unit. We had planned to stay a couple of nights, but after one night we had to leave. The customer service was absolutely appauling. For example, we were required to pay for a parking spot in the under ground parking. When we tried to park, our Land Cruiser would not fit. When we asked for a refund, we were told that we should have told them that we had a large vehicle. Eventually a refund was offered, but it was like pulling teeth. We got this attitude from more than one of the front desk staff. The room was also no great shakes. The place is in desperate need of a renovation. The sink plug was missing and it just did not have a sense of cleanliness.

Hotel was at the end of the main street through the city, near the sky tower, making the location quite good. However we were given a low floor and this was quite noisy during the night. The Hotel has a small reception area and is very basic. Room had a kitchen area with seperate bath and bedroom but all looked very tired and in need of a lick of paint.
Lots to do in Aukland, Sky Tower is a must and if you vist late afternoon you can see the city both in daylight and just as the lights come on all over the city. Lots of Harbour trips to choose from and a beautiful park on the outskirts of town where you can walk to the top of "one tree hill".
Good choice of bars and restaurants to suit all budgets

For a budget hotel the rooms were okay, clean and comfortable with tea making facilities and TV but we did have a couple of problems.
First we hired a car only to find that parking at the hotel is limited to a couple of dozen spaces in under the hotel which you will be lucky to get. If you have to park in one of the car parks nearby it works out quite expensive.
Second, if you are staying at the weekend be aware that opposite the hotel are a lot of bars and clubs which generate quite a bit of noise but more annoying by far is the Bungi seat right outside the hotel If like us your room is in the front of the hotel don't expect to get any sleep until after 04.00 am.
The hotel staff were grudgingly helpful in moving us to another room high and to the rear of the hotel and we were lucky in getting a parking space that had just become free (you have to book the spaces).
The hotel is in the centre of the city and the shopping areas and skytower are all nearby.
The hotel does have internet facilities and a small restaurant.
These hiccups did not spoil our stay and we enjoyed looking around Auckland.
We took a day out to visit the Zion wildlife park at Whangerei. Its a nice drive out and the white lions and tigers are worth seeing. The park appreciates poeples support and the staff give a guided tour and are very informative about the animals and their future plans.

The hotel is in a good location . The rooms were out dated but clean.the bed wasn;t great but they had the best pillows i have ever put my head on. But the noise of a night was terriable. people screaming till about ten from the bungy ride acrosss the road and then more yelling and screaming from people in the city having a good time.it was so noisey By the time it stopped it was about 3.30am.We couldn;t wait to get to a quieter place.

What can I say, except it was a dreadful experience. The room allocated was tired, dirty and small. The view was of a brickwall, with little light, peeled paint, stained carpet, roll- together mattress with threadbare sheets, and a note in the bathroom stating that a 15 minute shower was the maximum allowed for hot water, which is not sufficent for two showers.
We had booked a second night upon the return from our trip but cancelled and stayed at the Quadrant for a similar price and far superior room.
