“Fabulous Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

This hotel has a lot to offer the business traveller, the rooms are modern, relaxing and well set for the traveller that requires a good rest. The place is quiet and the location is convenient to the Viaduct and getting to the city. I did not have a room overlooking the water but the location and the attention to detail by the staff and the closeness to my conference (at the Viaduct) meant I was always walking close to the water and enjoying the fantastic views.

The only negative point is the business centre. Without a printer you have to go to the reception to get printouts done. This can be difficult if you require something quickly.

Overall, the place is highly recommended.

Room Tip: Level 6 is where the best rooms are and they are really comfortable. Try and get one with views of t...

My new husband and I stayed in Auckland for one night on the way to Tahiti for our honeymoon. We were blown away by the elegance and beauty of the hotel, and it's magnificent location. The room was wonderful, and we had one of the best night's sleep we'd had in a long time. We also had dinner in the hotel restaurant, and it was amazing. Definitely recommend the Auckland Sofitel.

Sofitel hotel is located in Auckland Viaduct and is perfectly located. Just a short stroll to the CBD, shops and restaurants. Situated amongst all the yachts and boats and high end harbour side living. Easy walk to Viaduct and level even though Auckland can be quite undulating. The hotel offers great rooms with all amenities. If you don't feel like a buffet or a la carte breakfast just go to the cafes situated on the city side of the hotel. Nice ambience within the hotel all staff are friendly and rooms are very generous in size. Internet is available for free within the room and this is always a nice treat. Turn down service every night and room was cleaned perfectly each day. Would go back any time for a repeat stay and suits business traveller or relaxing break.

The hotel is a great location. An expensive seventy five dollar taxi fare but the hotel is right on the waterfront. Beware! There are three types of room: overlooking the water, opposite a Microsoft / Vodaphone business park and the third opposite a bus station and above a tram line! We got the third option! However after some discussion we got moved to the second option! However, when we checked in we were told the hotel was full.
The room we settled in was clean, lovely big bed and bath. T.V. options were slim unless you paid an additional thirty dollars for the movie package. Rip off.
The swimming pool is actually a lane pool which is disappounting.
The Sofitel's strength is it's location. Near all the bars and eating places but far away so there is no noise at closing time.
We were going to have room service for breakfast but to be honest the weather was good and there are a number of good affordable cafe's / restaurants nearby.
The deal we got on the room was good, the staff changed our room with no fuss so all was good. One strange thing was a member of the night staff asked if we wanted our bed turned over at 6:00pm. A little early...

Pros:
- very modern and well appointed
- luxury room overlooking viaduct was spacious, quiet and very clean
- staff was very courteous and helpful
- took advantage of stay 4 pay 3 deal which made the hotel much more affordable than similar hotels near the quay

Cons:
- location: while well positioned near the harbor, it was a 15 minute walk to queen st (although red citylink bus stops on the main road near the hotel) and 10 minute walk to Auckland fish market

A really nice hotel. Large rooms[could use more furniture] and great sleeping accommodations. Spacious bath and amenties. Nice location on water short walk to marinas and restaurants.
Arrived early at 10:30AM from ship and had requested an early check-in the day before. They said hotel was full and room would be available around 1:30PM, Came back after 2 PM and they said still no room although I could see others checking in and receiving room key cards and both couples we were traveling with got their rooms. They kept looking for a room for me for about 10 minutes and finally found one. I was suffering from a cold and did not appreciate the extra wait.
Breakfast next day ordered a la carte in their restaurant instead of the pricey buffet. Took forever to get food and service was poor. Had to hunt down our waitress to get coffee refills. Also bacon to the locals is pretty much undercooked. Sent it back to get it crispy instead of warm and raw.

we stayed for 4 nights... the hotel is very nice and in a great location - easy walking distance to the city and the harbour restaurant precinct. Only negative is that only 1 side of the hotel has harbour views - we had a view of the car park and bus depot for 4 days which ruined our experience. Therefore, I recommend if a harbour room is not available, stay at the Hilton.

Room Tip: ask for harbour side room
