We were staying overnight in the city so we could enjoy a night out with friends. It was a shame we couldnt just stay at the hotel. Really enjoyed our short time there. The hotel is a little removed from the city are which we felt was great. It was quiet and peaceful yet only 5-10 mins to the busy viaduct area. Well worth considering for a more relaxed stay in Auckland

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet some look out over the water so you could ask for water views.

We stayed at the Sofitel after seeing the good reviews on Tripadvisor even though the $900+ price for four nights (that's after the "stay four nights for three" deal) was more than we initially were planning to spend. We had quite high expectations based on the price paid and the previous reviews and although we generally had a good experience, the Sofitel fell below our expectations for a luxury hotel.

Our top-5 disappointments (in no particular order):
The view of the bus service parking lot and the 4:30 a.m. rubbish pick-up,
The small balcony (more of a glorified window as it is too small to do anything but lean over),
The loud toilet (every flush rattled the pipes - sounded like a foghorn) - maintenance couldn't fix it,
Poor TV reception (picture not very clear and channels did not always match description,
Lack of attention to detail by housekeeping: leaving bottle of dish soap, not replenishing toiletries.

The top 5 things we liked (in no particular order):
In-room espresso machine (although it was initially not in the room when we arrived),
Beautiful lobby area and good Viaduct location
Bottled water (Waiwera) left on the night stands,
Comfortable bed and pillows,
Very helpful staff, particularly the concierge (who never seemed to be off the property)

Some improvements we would suggest:
Two comfortable lounge chairs in the room,
Better lighting in the bathroom to facilitate putting on make-up, etc.,
Include in-room wi-fi in the price of the hotel.

Had we paid 25% less, or had a room with a sea view (for the price we paid), we would have been much more satisfied with our stay. We would contemplate staying at the Sofitel again, but only if there was a reduced rate.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 436 which was just above the street with a poor view - unless you do not care abou...

I recently stayed at the Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour on a business trip with colleagues for 4 nights. The property came highly recommended by business associates.

From the moment you walk in the hotel has a very welcoming feel to it. It's right on the water with floor-to-ceiling windows to let lots of light in. There are mediation pools with fountains in the lobby which block out the noise of the city. The hotel is located right in Viaduct Harbour so its just right around the corner from great bars and restaurants. It's easy to walk or catch a cab.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The beds are like clouds and I slept well every night (may colleagues were all commenting on how great the beds were at this hotel.) The bathrooms are a good size with separate shower and tubs. I loved the rain shower after a long day at the office. It was so relaxing! The hotel offers L'occitane products, which is a nice touch.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. I had some trouble with the tub my 2nd night and someone from housekeeping showed up at my door within in minutes after I got off the phone with reception. They tried to fix it, but it required repair the next day. When I got back into my room the next day it was all taken care of.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to returning to this hotel on my next trip to Auckland.

Room Tip: There is a cafe attached to the hotel to grab a quick breakfast or coffee. You can charge items to y...
