“Excellent choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

We had a superb stay at the Celestion. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom on arrival and found the apartment to be spacious and well equipped. It is a 5 minute walk to the water and the same distance to Queen Street. There is a supermarket in the next block and many restaurants close by. The service was very good. However, I do believe the internet should be free. A very pleasant introduction to NZ.

The was a really disappointing place to stay. The rooms are fine, with plenty of space would be great for a longer stay with cooking facilities and separate bedrooms.

However the service was awful. We arrived and were directed to by park in a laneway beside the hotel to unload our luggage. WE struggled to do that, while the staff - and there were plenty of them - stood around and watched. Then we struggled toget our bags across the foyer to the lift and again provided entertainment for the reception staff who didn't seem at all inclined to assist or offer us a trolly to help with our bags. Then, supposedly it was up to us to take our car off to the car park which is not a short walk from the hotel, but quite a distance away. However, we'd been parked in by another guest to the hotel, and then - the best part (not!) was the car coming the other way down the laneway and determined to get past us. When he couldn't he proceded to abuse us. We asked the reception to see if they could find out who was blocking us in, and get them to move - but apparently that;'s not part of the service either. Nor is dealing with abusive drivers who continued to abuse us.

We won't be back. I can't recommend the Celestion - unless you like providing entertainment for reception staff who are bored, impolite and not in the least bit helpful.

Room Tip: Don't stay here if you expect service and assistance from staff. You won't get it.

This hotel is perfectly situated for an easy stroll to Vector Arena but also convenient to Queen St etc. Room was fine - plenty big enough but needed basic maintenance...towel rail not screwed on, tap loose, no soap in shower etc. Bit of a let down for the price.

Our two kids and I really loved our two-bedroom suite, with a kitchenette, living room, dining area and balcony. It's right around the corner from the trendy Britomart area and we were able to walk to the ferry and sky tower in no time. The staff were very friendly and the laundry facilities were clean and convenient. Two thumbs up!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

Our family - 2 adults, 2 middle school children - stayed here for 2 nights in early December, 2012. Location is very close to the waterfront with all of the restaurants, shops, sights, etc. Rooms were decent size. Wifi is extra. Staff was friendly and helpful. Having a small kitchen unit in the room is very helpful although we had to ask for a coffee press (not provided in the room). Laundry facility on premises. We got a good deal by cashing in mileage credits. Waldorf has 7 properties in the vicinity, so be sure your shuttle / taxi has the correct name and address. Ours dropped us off at the one 2 blocks away.

Room Tip: Rooms on floor six and above

The initial impression of the Celestion (dark reception area, dingy landing areas etc ) belies the spacious and pleasant apartments. Well located and an easy walk to the centre of the city, the waterfront and harbour area and with a large supermarket nearby. Despite the surrounding area being fairly busy our apartment (10th floor) was surprisingly quiet.
The apartment was spacious (we were given an upgrade) with a range of good facilites inc a dishwasher and the compext boasted a sizeable guest laundry - very helpful for travellers such as ourselves ! Staff were very helpful and as mentioned in a previous review, if travelling to the airport, ask them to source a taxi as they have some sort of arrangement with a local company
Overall a good place to stay at very reasonable weekend rates

I checked in with a large group. They didn't honor any of our request. They mis calculated things and had to charge my credit card four times. I asked for for an extended check out for 1.5 hours and they said that they would have to charge us $20.00 per room. Keep in mind that our group just spent $10,000 NZD.

The people at the desk are nice. Laundry is $10.00 for a wash and fold for a bag of laundry.

But the overall service to entice large groups to come here are not here. This hotel is modernish and clean. Their midweek cleaning service (only one cleaning in a whole week) was done satisfactorily, however there is plenty of room to improve upon this service as well.
