“Dirty and rundown”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014 via mobile

We booked a quad share (4 single beds); only to be told on checking in that there was only a room with 3 beds available and one of our group would have to sleep in a different room. We put up with this inconvenience only because we didn't have time to look for another hostel.

The linen was clean, but it appeared that this is where their cleaning routine starts and stops. The shared toilets and shower stank of urine and mould; and were so dirty we preferred to use facilities elsewhere.

We were only there for one night and that is more than enough. There are plenty of , much better run facilities in the area, you'd be wise to give city travellers a miss.

The room we stayed in had clean sheets and towels, it had been tidied but thebathroom is very tired and in urgent need of repair. We couldn't have breakfast as the top draw was full of stale water. However the people ( iassume they were staff) made it worth staying there as they were super friendly and extremely accomodating. They knew all the places and how to get there and made both of us very very welcome. The price was pretty reasonable as well.

Room Tip: Buy your room from wotif, and if you need to get anywhere ask the people at the desk, they are super...

I stayed in City Travellers with my family (1 kid age 4 years old) for about 10 nights from Nov 21st - Dec 1st. We rented private studio room and in my opinion with the price we paid, it was not bad at all. Of course you got what you paid, with NZ$79 per night, we got nice place to sleep and the room has enough equipments for us such as small fridge and other kitchenette sets. Staff was very helpful (the manager - Franz). The location is very close to Queen Street, Waterfront and it has great Japanese ramen restaurant nearby the corner of Anzac Avenue. The only thing we don't quite like was the noise from outside street. Sometimes it can be a little disturbance but after awhile, we were fine with it. Again, you got what you paid, if you are looking for fancy place to stay, go to 4 stars or 5 stars hotel, but if you looking for budget accommodation, this place is good enough for your shelter.

This place is disgusting. The list of revoltingness would go on and on. It was the filthiest kitchen I have ever been in. DO NOT be fooled by the photos of the clean rooms on their webstie. Its FALSE ADVERTISING. Even if you are wanting budget accomodation DO NOT stay here. The amount of money you save on the cost of the room you will spend on cleaning products to steralise anything you come into contact with.

Room Tip: Do not stay here

Auckland, NZ was our first stop for a 7 country tour round Asia. We was spending only 6 nights in Auckland before a long and frustrating flight to Singapore (11 Hours). We arrived into Auckland airport and after some heavy questioning from Immigration, we headed out to find a taxi to take us to the Hostel.
Once we arrived, check in process was fairly easy. They let us check in early even though we got there before the usual allowed check in time.
Room was just average at best. We paid for a superior private room. Room is very narrow and long and didn't have double glazing windows so the room was freezing in the evenings (June 2013).
Room had two small single beds, TV and some kitchen appliances. Bathroom was small but clean.
Hostel is close to a supermarket (Woolworths NZ) and close to the city centre including the Sky tower which is extremely worth a visit.

Overall its very average but what can you expect for hostel prices. If your on a budget for travelling then i would recommend this hostel.

When I booked this hostel I was expecting a twin room with en suite and shared facilities. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into a studio with twin beds, a couch and TV, a wardrobe, en suite bathroom with gorgeous hot shower, a kitchenette complete with free tea, coffee and milk etc.
The guy at reception was lovely, the area is quiet and only a few mins walk into the city centre, a shop right next door, free parking between 6pm and 8am. Perfect for people on a budget who don't want to go to a proper hostel!

Whilst the lounge based fittings for the room (couch, table chairs, tv, clock, bed) were tidy and of reasonable quality, the kitchen and bathroom outweighed this with dirty, broken and generally substandard fittings. I couldn't bring myself to use the kitchen and severely scrubbed any dishes I came in contact with first. The tap wasn't fixed to the sink, there was a hole where the cooktop had been, with a plank of wood covering it, and another filthy stand alone cooktop on top. The bathroom was a toilet that couldn't be flushed more than once an hour ( and ran the whole time it was) the vanity a half demolished basin and partly painted broken shell with holes in the wall where the towel rail was supposed to be. No Soap, no hand towel.
A layer of dust covered most things highlighting the severe lack of cleaning standards, dirt and hair could be clearly seen on the floor of the bathroom, and the smell of the pungent air freshner that I assume was to mask other foul smells just made me gag. Yuck. Definitely better places to stay for similar price range. Won't be going back. Ever.

Room Tip: Find one somewhere else....
