“I had the time of my Life partly thanks to people i met in city travellers !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2011

I came in Auckland with my best friend in october 2010, i took this hostel because of the price and the location which is perfect because the hostel is not located directly on the main road but just 5 minutes walk, nearby without disturbance. People who's saying that the hostel is disguting or dirty exaggerate, it is not perfectly clean but every single ''hostel'' in Auckland is the same and even worse. I've met beautiful people and had awesome parties on the fif floor ! I have found love in City travellers, an english guy who wd absolutely agree with my comments (he stayed more than 5 months so ...) Guys at the reception are good mates, helpful and friendly. All this hostel is friendly so do not have any hesitation going to CT !!! to Ranz & Ahmed >>> love u guys & love City travellers ! Gaelle - France

We were generally impressed with this hostel. We being three 20 year olds in Auckland for 3 nights for a concert at Vector. The room was basic, and a bit outdated, the photos on the website are definitely a few years old. The bench on the kitchenette was marked and burnt, and the bathroom could've been cleaner. On the other hand, you get what you pay for and for $80 per night for the three of us we certainly weren't complaining. The location is great, just a few blocks from Queens St and just around the corner from Vector Arena and we all slept really well- we had a room off the street, so were lucky with the lack of traffic noise. Also when we asked for a triple room we were expecting at least two of us to be sharing a bed, so were pleasantly suprised to find three single beds lined up in a row in our room- kinda cute.

Overall this place is very basic but very cheap, and would suit groups of young people well.

PS the website's claim that they have flat screens in every room is a blatant lie ;)

Many thanks for your review and look forward to welcoming you back soon, unfortunately we do have flat screen in the majority of our rooms, however due to thieves we have had 4 taken from our rooms of which one of the rooms is the one you were in, but we have now much better tv's in the rooms from your last visit so look forward to having you back soon. Hard to find any Pro's about this hotel, booked it for the rate of $350NZD for a 5 nights stay.. A musty smell met us in the lobby and i were taken to our room on the first floor. A very strong curry smell met us as i got out of the lift, now l dont mind curry but by god not 7am the smell.. i couldnt stay there even if i was paid to.. the door to my studio i couldnt get it to lock from the outside only locked from the inside i didnt feel safe leaving any of my stuff there.... im not a posh dude but i do have limits... i think it would be safer to live on the street.. The room was bad, dirty windows, dirty curtains, when i got there i ran into the internet cafe next door and booked a hotel for that nite... when i went back an told the guy on the desk if i could only stay here for one nite, not that i was going to... i was hoping for some money back, but to my desapointment he said he couldnt give me any money back, so i told the guy i was moving out to a freinds house... so i just moved all my gear out to the lingham hotel.. it really put a disapointment to my stay in auckland... i also seen a sign at the front desk if i lose my key there is a $40 dollar charge.. well guess what i still have the key they are not getting it back, they made enough money on me to afford to make another key and my credit card is cancled so screw you city travelers... the pictures on the site must be of another place its not what i seen

As discussed with you at the time each room has a kitchen and photos are of our rooms 104 & 308 so this our property and your room was identical to that of the photos only was not roadside. You were advised reasons behind no refund and moving from a 2 star property to the Langham Auckland a 5 star hotel well thats a good comparison isn't it.

Don't waste endless of your time looking for a good place to stay, because this is the one. You'll be welcomed by either Ranz or Ahmed at all time. Very nice and helpful, they'll make your stay confortable.
In the middle of the city, short walk from the main street (Queen Street) and the night life. Clean, tidy and quiet.
If you are an artist you can try to paint your own wall!! If you are not, just buy some stuff as you can decorate it and bring some new style and life.
If you want to stay in peace, that's good. But if you want to meet some people, have fun and chat, feel free to come up to the level 5B, where a bench of long stay people will make your night enjoyable!

Thanks again to Ranz, Ahmed and Mark! I had a such great time.

Regards

Hard to find any Pro's about this hotel, booked it for the rate of $195NZD for a double suite with kitchen for 3 nights.. A musty smell met us in the lobby and we were taken to our room on the third floor. A very strong curry smell met us as we got of the elevator and the guy told us that someone is cooking in his room, now l love curry but in a restaurant not in a hotel room. Mentioned it again on the last day and was told it was the restaurant next door. The room was bad, dirty windows, dirty curtains, decrepid utensils and microwave and the only good thing about the bathroom was that the water was running. lf you want a cheap room for one night, get in get out then this place would probably suit you. We travelled around New Zealand and Australia for 3 months so we know what to look for in a room and l certainly woul'nt recomend this hotel. The 2 guys on the front desk were good but the room was gross. Just had another look on their website at the photos of the place and the entrance looks the same but those photos of the rooms must be of another property.

Thank you for taking the time to review and we have since rectified this issue with a fresh air system on each floor, as the curry smell was unfortunate but now rectified as well as the curtains in all rooms and as advised we do have kitchen facilities in the rooms so people have the option to cook in their rooms. The photos on my website are from room 104 and 308 so it is of the rooms obviously we cannot place 50 photos of every room on the site, however for $65.00 in central auckland we feel we are comparatively priced for what people recieve.
Thank you

Good location with a short walk to the ferry terminals & main attractions, although the room was a nice size & included a sofa & kitchen, the bathroom had a distinct odour that was not pleasant & the rest of the room was not at all clean either. This is a cheap room for the city however they should always be clean & smell fresh. It also suffers from party going revellers so take your earplugs.
