“Royal Treatment at The Richardson”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

From the moment we stepped inside this boutique hotel, the service has been impeccable. This is our second stay and the welcome back was warm and friendly. The spacious suite is tastefully decorated and provides a luxurious 5-star retreat.
The relaxing spa provided the perfect opportunity to de-stress after a long flight. Opus restaurant is a must with a wide range of fine dining options and an excellent wine cellar. Location-wise, The Richardson is close to the charming suburb of Subiaco, Kings Park gardens and easy transport to the CBD - although we chose to walk most days.
We enjoyed a delightful day cycling along the Swan River which the Concierge organised complete with a gourmet picnic lunch!
In spite of the hotel's many attributes, the highlight remains the attention to detail by the amazing management and staff at every level. We were treated like royalty.

Room Tip: If you can obtain a suite on the west side of the building, you will enjoy stunning views across the...

Thank you David R for your comments and it was a pleasure to welcome you back. I'm glad you enjoyed the picnic lunch - a recent addition to the services we provide, particularly handy with our proximity to King's Park. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next trip to Perth.

A very bad experience , we asked them to arrange a car rental ! The car never arrived we waited until 11.15 am in the hotel and eventually walked into Perth. When we rang and complained, the woman on front desk said the car was here at 9 am ! They never contacted us, we were in the hotelroom and then the spa ! they had our mobile numbers and email address . They then told us it was our resposability and we had to pay €500....! They never even confirmed they had booked the rental car or the time ! We had to complain 5 times before they agreed we had nothing to pay . They didn't even appolagise incredible !!! We never got a proper nights sleep as the alarm went off at 6.30 am the first morning , after a 17 hour flight and we asked the front desk to turn alarm off which they had to do remotely :-( they forgot and the next day the same thing again , yup 6.30 am alarm call !!!!!!!! They truly don't give a darn !

Thank you David Hugh W for your review and it is regrettable that both you and your partner felt the need to write two negative reviews on TripAdvisor.

The rental car you hired from Avis was delivered at 9:00am as requested by you. My staff did try to locate you in your room – no answer; on your mobile – turned off; in the restaurant – you had already left. They did not look in the Spa, where you were having a treatment. You signed the rental contract the night before, my staff assumed that you would expect the car on time and that you would come for the keys at your leisure. We do not feel that we were in any way negligent in this matter. We managed, through our relationship with Avis, to waive the fee of $146 for the first day hire and you had no further expense as you did not take the car. I cannot understand how you had a cost of Euro 500 when in fact the car did not cost you anything. As to the two early morning calls – these came from the phone device beside your bed and had been set by the previous occupant of that room. I do apologize for this and my housekeeping staff should have checked to see that the alarm was not set before you checked into the hotel.

You mentioned that staff do not care, which is not the case, albeit I can understand their hesitance to build a strong rapport with you when, on a number of occasions, you resorted to verbal abuse and use of profanity. I called personally to discuss these matters and to extend a complimentary transfer to the airport as a gesture of goodwill. I am disappointed that this has not been taken into consideration and the efforts made to compensate for the inconvenience caused to you were not accepted.

In summary, your reaction to what you assumed was a lack of attention and poor service, was uncalled for and is not behavior we experience very often at The Richardson.

We hv been in the Richardson hotel in Perth for 5 nights, and I can honestly say they hv spoiled our holiday. They hv not offered a good service and apparently their policy is to blame their customers for their fault, lack of information from them Is costing us almost $500 and only because they were uncapable to locate us in their own spa in the first floor! And we been told that is not their fault as they tried to contact us in the room but we weren't there! And we both hv our mobiles with us! Just unbelievable ! We were so excited about this trip....I can not believe that a so expensive hotel treat their customers like that! We are going to Sidney when we leave Perth, but we hv tried to change our flights to go back to Singapore instead, that's how much their bad service have put us off, really disappointing! Hope you guys have better luck when coming to visit
Perth, just stay away from Richardson!

Room Tip: Go to another hotel! Hotel in from of the beach in Cotesloe is as nice but half of the price, been t...

Thank you Aaron J for your feedback and we are very fortunate, being a boutique hotel, to have a full range in services - a quality Spa, a great gym and 14 metre lap pool, an outstanding restaurant and the personalised service in the hotel. Thank you for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Just, WOW. Stayed here for 4 nights with hubby who was on business. Upon arrival we were greeted, welcomed, thanked, offered refreshment, and our bags were whisked away to our (fabulous) room. Although we were close to the elevator, and initially reluctant with that location, we heard nothing- no noise, no elevator dinging, no doors slamming. Stephanie at reception (concierge) was PERFECTION. Love her- she is responsive and service oriented. The pillows and mattresses are comfy, and we were left a welcome gift in our room along with a note from the manager. Additionally, the mini bar is vast and there are many food options that do not cost an arm and a leg. This place is absolutely spot on and an excellent value for your money.

I stayed here with my husband in a one bedroom suite on our wedding night earlier this month. My family, who flew over from America for the ceremony, were in the Richardson the whole week and had been raving about it. When we checked in we found out why: The manager greeted us at the front desk, a bottle of chilled champagne was waiting for us in our suite, and the hotel staff were more attentive than any I have encountered.

Add to that the fact the minibar prices are basically at cost (imagine: paying $29 for a bottle of wine that retails for roughly that amount, and $3 for a bag of potato chips), and they have us sold. We plan to book our anniversary there every year, and hopefully have time to enjoy the spa next time!

I chose an overnight stay at the Richardson so we could walk to nearby Fraser’s Restaurant in Kings Park and take some time to relax.

The Richardson did not disappoint. We were made to feel very welcome by the reception staff, who I noticed, were of a much higher calibre in service delivery than most others one encounters in Australia.

We booked an Executive Room which was like a mini suite, with galley kitchen, dining table, lounge chairs and a balcony. The welcome drink on the table was a nice touch, as well as the turn down service and accompanying chocolates.

The only disappointment for me was that there was no movie channel. In its place was a DVD library (of mostly old movies) available from reception. At this price point, I think a movie channel is a must. My husband also suggested hooks in the bathroom, as there is nowhere to put anything other than the toilet seat.

Breakfast in the café was what I expected for a boutique hotel. All the usual offerings, plus a freshly cooked hot breakfast. Once again, staff were attentive and service excellent.

The Richardson is perfect for a relaxing mini-break for locals. Interstate and international guests will benefit from the proximity to Kings Park and the easy access to the West Perth shopping strip and City Cat to the CBD. I would definitely stay there again and can confidently recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Executive Rooms are very spacious.

Thank you Sue-Murray for your positive comments. I was glad to read that you found the staff to be welcoming and the room spacious and functional. We have looked at movie channels and so far we have not found a suitable system, hence the use of DVD as a temporary measure. As for hooks in the bathroom, there should be two sets of double hooks in each bathroom - I will have this addressed immediately and thank you for highlighting this. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
