“Designed by somebody with a sense of humour”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

Firstly the nightly rate is a bit steep for what you get, but it's Perth so you can't really expect much better so I haven't marked it down on that front.

On arrival we found the staff very helpful and the room clean, but over the next few days it started to degrade due to the lack of room service. While it's understandable that the room isn't serviced every day it would be good if the rubbish bins could be cleaned out and new towels offered every couple of days.

Other positives were a complimentary copy of The Australian provided each day (plus local Sunday papers) and a good selection of snacks to be purchased or charged to your room 24 hours a day at reception.

When we checked in we were warned about works taking place in the hotel from 8am weekdays, but there's also a construction site next door who are happy to kick-off at around 7am with drills, hammers etc.. This is not the hotel's fault but something to be careful of, maybe check with the Outram if they know the status of the works when booking.

As previous reviewers have mentioned the rooms are bizarrely designed. The spa is enormous, which is good if you want a spa but otherwise it just takes up 20% of the total space of the room. The shower, which is located directly behind the TV (which faces the bed), has two doors - which is unique, but also fairly pointless unless you've got two people entering from different directions. There's an identical bathroom mirror and sink on either side of the shower, which is helpful if you've got two people staying there but is also taking up space.

There are two bedside lamps, but bizarrely you can't control them individually and turning either on from the power point next to the bed turns both on at the same time - making it difficult for one person to sleep while another one reads.

The bathroom doesn't afford much privacy, and because you have to turn the light on with the door open before entering the toilet it's no good if another person sleeping in the bed is a light sleeper or is light sensitive.

There is very little natural light (our only window faced a brick wall) and by the second day the room had started to develop a dank, musty smell which we couldn't get out even when opening the balcony doors.

A car park is available at $10 a night, but of the limited spots available two of them require precision driving skills to avoid hitting either the bollards or the concrete supports - and the marks left on the concrete show that many have come unstuck in the past. We ended up giving up and parking outside instead of damaging a hire car, the bays to avoid are A and H.

There are a few places to eat nearby, and to get takeaway but keep in mind that there's nowhere in the room to eat other than on the bedside tables while sitting on the bed. Also BYO cutlery as there's none available in the room.

Not a bad option for a short stay or overnight, but more than a couple of days is probably pushing your luck. It's located in a fairly quiet area of town but the free red bus is located directly outside which is helpful if you're trying to connect to the CBD area.

This hotel bills itself as boutique. I wonder if they really mean, quirky and small. I had a room facing Outram Street, which had a pleasant enough outlook (apparently other rooms look at walls) but from one very small window, given the corner location, which leant an unnecessarily dingy air to the room. The room layout was bizarre as noted by others - nearly half the room given over to the huge spa, shower, basins and toilet. The whole "wet area" (except toilet) has no door off the sleeping area and lots of mirrors to ensure there are no secrets. Really I think even couples would find this a bit much. I found the bed uncomfortable though I can't pinpoint why, I just woke up with a sore back each morning.

On the plus side the room was clean when I arrived, and the staff were fine. The Red CAT bus stops right outside, which was great, and the location is quiet and close to Kings Park and a very nice cafe two doors away.

But, for over $300 per night, I really expect the room to be serviced! I was very surprised that it was not. And only a cold breakfast buffet seemed a bit stingy too - go to the Outram Cafe just up the road instead. I know Perth is outlandishly expensive compared to the eastern states but really, I am sure you can do better.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Outram St have a better outlook (but still are dark)

We booked this hotel on recommendation from a family-member who has time share. Although the free bus stops just outside the hotel, it is still inconvenient to the city and there are not many restaurants open in the area surrounding the hotel late at night and no convenience stores.
The room was very oddly designed, but not in a good way. There is no privacy in the bathroom (except the toilet) as the spa and shower are out in the open. The shower is located directly behind the T.V. wall unit. The only power-point was located under the T.V. so charging our phones was annoying.
It was very strange having a massive spa in a tiny room with such a lack of other amenities. For example, I would have preferred space for a dining table or a larger window as it seemed very dark and dank.
Be warned- we stayed here for 4 nights and nobody cleaned our room. Our towels were pretty gross by the end of the stay and our bins were over-flowing! I was happy to get out of there to be honest.

We had to book 2 nights for a one night Perth stopover from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney as the arrival time was too early in the morning but the room would only be available in the afternoon.
We got a cab from Perth airport which took us to the resort doorstep but it was quite expensive - $50AUD!
Nevertheless, it was good to relax after a sleepless 6 hrs flight.
The studio was quite spacious, clean with modern décor and a nice street view and the orthosport clinic just across the road.
Its quiet location is handy with the free CAT bus stop just outside the resort; arriving/departing every 10mins or so and easy to get around and the city centre is only a short ride away where you can hop on other free CATs to get to other parts of the city.
The staff were friendly and helpful which made the short stay very enjoyable.

Really really dull. Stayed for a 4 day business trip. $330 per night is a joke, should be charging $150 tops. The rooms are oddly designed with a ginormous spa bath and a shower behind the tv cabinet. The walls are so thin I can hear the person in the next room taking a pee. Tv has 10 chanels all with sport or news. The mini bar isn't stocked, you have to ring to request an item. No room service. Breakfast is poor. NO dinner? The balcony looks onto a carpark. It's a boring hotel, weirdly designed no Pool, gym or bar. Bed isnt very comfortable. The staff are slack and very informal. Not much to do in the area. Would not recomend this to anyone

High price for basic accommodation. If you are lucky you might get a room overlooking Outram Street, otherwise you will have a rear or side room with a spectacular view of an adjoining office building or car park.

Rooms are nice but basic. If you have a travel partner, make sure you enjoy seeing them naked because the shower is all glass and separated from the bedroom only by the entertainment unit. If you want to use the hand basin, toilet, mirror or spa, you will most definitely cop an eyeful. If that does not turn you on, you may have to wait. Even then, there is nowhere to hide while drying off. In either case, just ham it up and make a good show of it.

The Hotel provides breakfast and lunch only, there is no dinner available here, but there are a couple of eating establishments nearby, some pricy - I recommend Black Toms for a relaxed pub/restaurant hybrid.

The city bus stops at the front door and is surprisingly regular, unlike most capital cities.
Staff are pleasant enough and West Perth is clean and modern and much more quiet then the CBD if that is what you want. If you want somewhere a little more vibrant, stay in the City for much the same price.

Fabulous stay, great modern room with massive two person spa, well priced and delicious breakfast and coffee (lunch also looked great), friendly staff and atmosphere and the free CAT bus on the doorstep.

Stay here and not in the CBD at overpriced, outdated and smelly places like the Novotel Langley!

Room Tip: Read a range of reviews and consider hotels away from CBD with convenient public transport.
