Read good things about this hotel prior to our three night stay. Chose it based on location - a short drive from the University of Western Australia, where my husband was attending a two day conference. Also liked the idea of an apartment with kitchen facilities instead of just a hotel room. We paid A$186 per night.
It was a bit of a challenge to get in and out of the tiny parking garage, but once we figured it out, it was fine. We also immediately had concerns about noise, as some of the Medina's apartments face a busy intersection, but our room faced the Exhibition Center and was relatively quiet.
Our one bedroom apartment was nice enough with a large bathroom, well equipped kitchen and separate bedroom. It had some over-the-top weird contemporary furniture though - a hairy leopard print stool in the bedroom that just got in the way and appeared to serve no purpose, another animal print chair in the lounge that could not have possibly been designed to sit on, and a couch that looked nice, but pitched us forward to the point of falling off head first. I had to wonder if the hotel owners and designers had bothered to try out the furniture.
Normally I don't give a hoot about furniture, but comfort is important to me, and this furniture was not user friendly.
The bedroom was a bit small, being filled with the slightly uncomfortable king size bed. We had to store our suitcase in the lounge, as there wasn't sufficient space in the bedroom.
We had one meal in the hotel at the Metro Bar. The meal was expensive (A$91 with drinks and appetizer), but it was pretty good .
The Medina is nicely located - I spent two days exploring Perth on foot and found plenty to do - Hay Street Mall was a short walk away and Kings Park was a wonderful surprise. Could have spent all day there.
