Unpreposessing on the outside and simple inside (immediately opposite Hans Chinese Restaurant), this restaurant is actually a gem hidden away just 5-10 minutes drive from the centre of Perth. Chill & Grill (formerly the Amer Mahal) brings back memories of Indian dishes eaten in India over many visits, from Uttar Pradesh through Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, right down as far as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Tastes are authentic, well prepared and a joy to eat.
Our experience was entirely composed of genuine Indian tastes and generous portions, and all at a price which was very reasonable indeed compared to the rest of Perth. Buttered and Garlic Naan stand out, and the Lamb Madras
was excellent, with just a touch of Lime - as it is actually prepared in Southern India.
Service could be seen as a wee bit slow, but remember that dishes are being prepared to order using fresh materials - a far cry from the “cauldron cooking” of many Indian restaurants charging higher prices for poorer quality mass produced food. The slight wait was more than worth it, and if the food came faster it could not have been so good.
Would we go back? We will.
