“Very Good/Excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

A 6 night stay. I was attending a conference at Crown and found staying here a much better fit for my needs (and ethics) than staying 5km from town. i took taxis (around $20-24 per trip) and there was only a maximum of a 5 minute wait to catch a taxi - in either direction.

I was a little concerned when the taxi pulled up on my arrival on a Friday night because there was a jazz band in full swing, with a full bar and restaurant. Would I be able to sleep with all the noise The room was absolutely quiet-with no noise leak. I stayed in one of 2 rooms on the second floor.

The bed is excellent -comfortable, very good linen and is really "KING sized". The bathroom not only looked great it was large and very functional. The towels are large. The entertainment system included HDMI inputs for portable devices as well as having access to Apple TV. More than adequate storage for clothing.

Though the decor was far from minimalist it was not offensive. There were no funny cleaning smells. A Nescafe pod machine and fresh milk is provided. The bar-fridge was compete with all the usual suspects and the reception staff didn't bat an eye-lid when I asked for the alcohol to be removed from the room.

I ate bar food twice in the hotel and it was very good. The barman was knowledgeable and mixed a very interesting martini. The crowd was a upmarket and the prices average. The bar scene seemed to be full-on when I returned from the conference in the late evening. Though I only ate breakfast once in the hotel. It was alacarte and hence a reasonable price and one wasn't tempted to over eat. If you're in a rush in the morning there's a very popular coffee cart - operated by the hotel.

There's very good reason the hotel provides a set of scales in the room!

There are number of interesting bars and restaurants close by if one didn't want to eat dinner every night in the hotel.

Staff attentive, helpful and friendly.

I unreservedly recommend this hotel. The only reason I don't give excellent is purely one of personal taste in relation to the decor - and I admit I'm probably being a little unfair.

Room Tip: Tell the cabbie the hotel is on the corner of St Georges Terrace and Mount Street. It's so bout...

Stayed 2 nights at this fabulous hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were fabulous; very courteous and could not do enough for me. The room was well thought out and the bathroom was one of the best I have been in for a long time! I don't usually have a bath when I stay at hotels as they can look a bit grubby, but this was in pristine condition and a good size that you could sit and relax in. Would definitely stay here again for business or as a couple (as this would be wasted on my teenagers!).

We had a Heritage Suite which was spacious but with rather dark decor (black marble bathroom) and fittings with numerous nude paintings that were an acquired taste! The bed was extremely comfortable though!

We would return to this hotel in a Heritage Suite but noting the windows are opaque and sound proofed which adds to the stifling feeling.

The service from people like Nick and Ada on reception was excellent and the breakfast was super. Beware however you have to order the breakfast and there are no cereals and you felt a pig if you ordered what you normally have on a buffet, such as fruit, cereal, toast, hot breakfast and pastries (which are classed as four courses here!) They did an excellent coffee though. Also we found the service variable.

The dinner here was good but small portions so not so good if you are hungry!

The hotel was in easy walking distance of Kings Park and the Botanical Gardens, but uphill. There is a free bus, i.e., No. 37 you can take, but we walked.

We took the train to Fremantle from the nearby station, Au$4.2, and returned by boat, but noting only Captain Cook Cruises is available at a cost of Au$26 one way.

Room Tip: Recommend Heritage Suite with breakfast included if possible.

We have just spent 3 nights at this hotel; we were on a business trip.
Pros for this hotel - excellent location on St Georges Terrace, staff friendly and helpful, small business centre with an Apple computer and printer/copier. Excellent a la carte Breakfast.
Within walking distance of main shopping area, river and Kings Park, buses at the door and close to trains.
We had a couple of lunches here which were excellent.
You can eat at two outside terraces or indoors.
Decoration of rooms - all good, bathroom has a very nice bath tub and an excellent rain head shower.
Lots of nice cafes, bars and restaurants close to the hotel.
Cons for this hotel - as we were there for business we found the telephone with cord was only able to be used on the bedside table - this made it very difficult to try and use your computer or take notes when standing by the bedside using the phone; there is a desk but no phone or plug.
Bedside lamps are very low and can't be used for reading; all lighting is managed by switches which are only on one side of the bed. We also found the Nespresso machine difficult to use as it is stored at the top of a cupboard, difficult to lift down so not user friendly; should be ready for use on a table. Underneath our room <6> they have some rooms which are let out for conferences or groups - there is a lot of noise coming from these rooms up to the bedroom. All windows have double glazing and are opaque - this lets in some light but makes it difficult to see out - no doubt this is due to office buildings around the hotel.
If you are coming with a car parking can be a problem; the concierge parks your car and retrieves it again when you wish to use it - this can be slow as parking around the hotel is difficult - hotel has an allocated 5 min park around the corner but this is used by the general public too. Probably best staying here when you do not need a car. Hotel is aware of this problem and have been trying to address the situation.
Would we stay here again? Not so sure.

Room Tip: Best to discuss with hotel about your needs; we tried one room and found it to be too small, change...

We stayed for two nights based on the Tripadvisor reviews and found it to be quite a mixed bag.
Positives
Good location in the CBD
Fast unlimited free wifi
11am checkout
Good quality linen, robes and towels
Negatives
Small double bed
No door between room and bathroom
Noisy restaurant downstairs with large outdoor area
Small cramped rooms
It is also worth noting that the interior design of the hotel is bizarre to say the least - this is purely subjective of course and a lot of money has clearly been spent, however we found the mix of faux-heritage, nude paintings and bling to be pretty dire.

Dear Travel_Lion_10.

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent stay at The Terrace Hotel.

We appreciate your comments regarding our Deluxe Double room which is our smallest room type and understand your disappointment if your expectations were not met. Our Deluxe King rooms have a wonderfully, comfortable kingsize bed which is more suitable for couples.

We certainly do hope we get the chance to welcome you back again in the future.

Kind regards,

We arrived at the terrace and found the staff friendly and professional, the hotel is an immaculate property and you can dine outside , that was nice and relaxed.
the food and wine was first class , but not to expensive , so we enjoyed our birthday experience and received a complimentary drink, how sweet was that , will be back soon i hope.

Great location within minutes walk of the main shopping area, close to the train station and the new arena and close to the river. The hotel is in a lovely old building and so the rooms are not huge. They are however very comfortable and very well appointed and very clean. Yes the window was small, but as we were only there at night and out during the day this wasn't a problem and the air con kept the room cool. The bathroom was doorless, but still hidden from the bedroom, however I'm not sure I would want to stay there with some one I wasn't married to or in a pretty close relationship with! It was nice and big though and had a great shower.
The staff were fantastic, very helpful, friendly and happy to keep all our luggage until very late in the day until we went up to the airport.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
