“Ideal location”

Miss Maud's is certainly an eye-catching hotel. It is perfectly placed in Perth for getting around and there is a "Red Cat" bus service which is free, just on the opposite corner which will take you around and about. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the Hay Street ahd Murray Street shops. The room was clean but very small but well kept. There are not that many tv channels. The guest laundry facility is also very handy. They have a restaurant next door and the breakfast included is really lovely - everything you could ask for. Dinner is also really nice and they also have a take-away cake shop sandwiched in between the hotel and restaurant. Reception staff and the night porter were all extremely helpful. The lift is a little scary, it is very old and half expected it to conk out mid-floor but it was fine.

Room Tip: Up-grade from a standard room.

The Hotel is older style, however the rooms were very clean, comfortable and as there was extreme weather outside (Perth, June storms) it was very quite inside. The staff were extremley helpful with my few enquiries. The staff at the connecting restaurant were efficient, and professional. The smorgasbord dinner meal I thought was expensive-$38.00 as I am not a big eater, I chose to buy my next meal at a nearby restaurant, which was delicious. Access to public transport/restaurant and shopping is excellent.. Airport transfer is also available. I was on the first floor, and what I enjoyed also was i was able to open the windows for fresh air. Initially I found the maze of the motel was confusing, as there re hallways leading in all directions-maybe that's my poor sense of direction.

Room Tip: although my room -176-was above the main street the noise level was minimal.

Buffet breakfast was included and was great. The location is excellent: walking distance from shops, northbridge, Perth mint. Attached bakery is excellent.

Rooms are small and in need of an update. Linen is cheap feeling. Wallpaper peeling off wall.

This hotel has nothing exceptional about it except for the catchy, homespun name. There is a Swedish theme in the otherwise bland decor, and yes there is a complimentary, extensive smorgasbord breakfast in the price - which is high by Australian standards, but cheap by Perth standards. The room we had (booked 3 weeks in advance) looked into a machinery well so we refused it - the second was better - it had daylight coming through a high placed window with no view. The shower was good, the bathroom smallish, what else can I say about a clean, ordinary hotel room?
The best part was the referral to Bayswater Car Rentals which offered the very best car rental (half price, no frills) in the whole of this otherwise, very expensive state.

Hi All,

I have just returned from 5 days in Perth, which was for a work trip.

Arrived on 4th June and checked out on 8th June at Miss Mauds Swedish Hotel.

Stayed in a room on the second floor (Room 233) which had a nice balcony.

Upon arriving, you definately feel like you are in another country. The reception is efficient and no hassle, which is just want you want.

I was given a key to my room and walked up the two flights of stairs and the rooms are key entry to get into your allocated room.

The room was reasonable and for 4 nights / 5 days I was there, felt comfortable. The room was clean and presentable and serviced daily.

The positives are:

- good priced for the 'boom town' of Perth.
- the price i paid included brekkie and they arranged for dinner to be included also at a cost.
- the location of it is great. Just a small stroll to the mall and a number of restuarants etc.
- close to AVIS car hire around a 5 minute walk to the office
- rooms were clean aand nicely presented. Not flash, but not old.
- buffer brekkie has a great selection of different items, so you wont get bored of that.
- hotel is located across from a car park and if you get a room with a view you can park on 3rd / 4th level and be able to look out from your window / baloony and see your car (for those that are cautious).
- staff are great and friendly especially in the restuarant, they going out and beyond.

The negatives, or potential negatives:

- Air conditioner in my room was making a noise that was slightly painful.
- the fridge in your room makes a noise that does / can keep you awake.
- You have no iron / ironing board in your room, this is located near room 209, and is communal. (FYI - never a queue when I had to use such).
- Shower spits out small amount of water and temperature is up and down.
- the buffet dinner is similar each night and wasnt great, but ok.
- there is no car parking at Miss Mauds. The car park across the road cost around $30 bucks a night.
- no frequent flyer points with any airlines (that I am aware of).

Overall, I can genuinely say, it was pleasant, and if i couldnt get into a resort style accommodation, I would have no hesitations to stay here again.

Cheers.

Room Tip: Pick Room 233 and ask for a Superior room.

We stayed 4 nites and have 2 rooms...
The rooms are cosy and clean but nothing spectacular...small TV,basic bathroom and poor sound insulation. The TV channels are limited. However,it is situated in a strategic location, walking distance to the mall, good eating places...highly recommended if u do not hv a car(no parking facility). The most outstanding is the breakfast...great food.

Room Tip: away from the bar next door

I've stayed at Miss Maud's 4 or 5 times in the past couple of years and it's become a bit like a home from home. I like it because it's got real independent character, not like the typical hotel chain box room. It's got all the things you actually need: great central location; reasonably priced (for Perth), TV channels, good, clean bathrooms with piping hot water and decent pressure for a shower; comfortable beds; guest laundry; good WiFi connection etc etc. But what makes it special are: the really friendly staff; the impeccable, but old-fashioned decor, the pre-war sliding-gate elevator, the Swedish folk-art paintings, the Swedish wooden painted Dalarna horses; and, above all, the amazing (included) Swedish Smorgasbord breakfast. Oh, and they have their own bakery on the ground floor. Go easy! It's everything good about the 1970s. Enjoy...

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel
