I stayed with a group of four friends in this apartment two weeks ago, and one week later, the symptoms of bed bug bites started appearing on our body. We were bitten all over the shoulders, arms and legs. Now we are all worried whether or not we brought any bugs home with us.
On the first night we stayed, one of us woke up at 2am and found an infestation of beg bugs all over the bed and crawling on his body. We took photos and showed it to management who were unhelpful and did not apologise. We were not offered to change rooms or any help.
The house keeping was appalling. The towels were changed once for the 4 nights we paid for. Our beds were not made for any of the nights we stayed. The milk in the fridge was already a week expired when we arrived, the kettle was broken.
We were told we were staying on the top level. however, go get to our apartment we would have to first take the lift to level 5 and then walk up two flights stairs (which the door to open the stairs was labelled 'fire escape') to reach our room.
I agree with other reviewers on this website as well. There were a lot more rules in the hotel than expected. One of which was that if we were to make any noise than the neighbours would complain about, we would be issued a fine of $150 without notice.
I definitely would advise against staying at this complex.

ConcernedPerth, Manager at Mont Clare Boutique Apartments, responded to this review, April 19, 2009
Dear Stayer01,

Firstly, please accept my sincerest apologies for your recent experience at Mont Clare Boutique Apartments.

We pride ourselves in providing not only a comfortable and memorable stay but also one that is of the highest in quality and service.

As stated in your review you advised that you spoke to a manager and showed your photó's etc.. I am the only manager at the property and have not seen these images until recently seen on Trip Advisor. This is the first time I have been made aware of the issues surrounding your stay.

As you are understandably disappointed about your stay and response to your concerns, I too am disappointed that I was not made aware of the situation and been allowed to respond prior to viewing your feelings online.

I am not sure as to who or when you stayed at the property but would like the oppurtunity to speak to yourselves directly and ask for you to please remove your review and allow us to sort this out amongst ourselves.

We have since seeing your review had our entire property screened from top to bottom and am happy to report that all rooms have been given the thumbs up.

Once again please accept our deepest apologies for your negative experience and hope you allow us the oppurtunity to make things right.

Kind Regards,
Mont Clare Management

for $160 a night for a 2 bed apartment i thought this was great value for money. We arrived VERY late at night and had no problems using the instructions provided to get access to the room key. So don't let the early reception hours put you off.

The apartment was clean and spacious with comfy beds. WE only stayed the 1 night so were in and out rather quickly. Theres a couple of car hire places right around the corner and a couple of cafes across the road for breakfast. I would stay here again for a night or two. I'd probably want something a bit more if I stayed longer but for our purpose, it was fine. Accommodation in Perth seems quite pricey to me so i thought this was a good find for a family.

We booked our Perth trip 7 months in advance, and were recommended by our agent to stay here at Mont Clare apartment, 190 Hay street. We did our survey before arriving and even though the majority of comments were more towards the negative side, we had a good experience when we stayed there from Dec 6th to 11th, 2008!!

Surprisingly the rooms at both level 3 and 4 (we booked two apartment) were okay..except for level 3 a weeny leak from upstairs...

Since we were prepared for the worst, so it was surprisingly homie! The toilets were clean and all the machines (drier and washing machine) were working well!

the only down side was that the distance that we had to travel each time when the transportation in Perth was only up to 6pm and had to walk allllllllll the way to 190 Hay Street, lucky us it was early summer so the day was longer and the air was breezy, so we enjoyed our long walks...with 3 prams!! LOL..i wouldn't recommend it for senior citizens though! But being adventurous, by walking we managed to find Golden Hay supermarket which sold Halal Meats and some souvenir shops that open till late evening!!

Bus was easy, you just need to walk for 5 mins and you'll find Wellington Street Bus Stop and basically and deliver you to any tourist spot you want to be.

We rented 3 cars, and the parking was easy, even though the checking in part was a bit tricky when you arrived after the agreed time. But you can always ask the other guests there and usually they can advise you to do yourself checking via the envelope the receptionist had prepared for you. We even help this Italian couple who arrived at 2am in the morning to do their self checking!!

Basically, if you want to stay here, just treat it like your home, bring extra garbage bags, do your own cleaning up , do your washing -they have washing machine and drier...(just like your own home!!) and you'll enjoy the privacy and the comfy apartment at 190 Hay Street .

Nice quiet location not far from the tourist tram stop so it was pretty convenient to get around. The apartments were spacious and clean though the dishwasher had a musky smell - it probably needed some air-drying. The shower head leaked as well but other than that, the apartment was great.

However, it seems that how good your apartment is depends on the luck of the draw. We had two apartments and the other room had a washer/dryer that wasn't working too well and was very noisy. Ours, though, worked perfectly fine. Overall, a good place if you are travelling in large groups (we had 7 in the group) as it's much, much cheaper than staying in a hotel.

Certainly does not deserve its 4 * rating.
Our one bedroom apartment was large and spacious, but the shower leaked and was not very good. Seemed to be full of rules, and the staff were not particularly helpful.
Parking was horrid, tight spaces and usually overfull, so you were left to park on the street.
Pool is pleasant enough, very long but quite narrow.
Apartments are serviced only once a week, and they won't take out your rubbish. For no services or hotel type services, I think the rates are quite high. While the apartments are spacious, they are not especially clean, the furnishings not especially comfortable. The lock on our door was not working, so it could not be locked. It was repaired the same day we reported it.
It is not in the middle of everything, but only a 10 minute walk from the centre amongst the shops, etc.
Noise not a problem as they impose a fine if there is even a complaint of noise. Nice reassurance, but more rules....
I would not bother going back.

  • Liked — Lots of space
  • Disliked — Where to begin? Parking, cleanliness, lack of service, lack of helpfulness of staff, etc....
