My wife and I decided to spend a night in town and go and see Miss Saigon so we booked an Executive Suite at the Mercure Hotel in Perth.
As a 3 Star hotel the Mercure stood up to its rating which is unfortunate as it could be, with a little refurbishment be upgraded to 4 Star.
The service on arrival was excellent. The only problem was the fact that due to road works on Hay Street Valet Parking was not available as the road was blocked off (Sunday) and the entrance to the Valet Parking would be closed.
The location of the hotel is not too far away from the CBD but then again Perth, after 5:00 pm is dull and boring if you happen to be over 30. Northbridge is a fair distance away but at least it was quiet.
The room itself, although looking a bit tired and jaded wasn't to bad. Plenty of room, very large bedroom and the king size bed was very comfortable. It had two toilets, one in a powder room and the other in the bathroom. The rooms themselves are in need of refurbishment in that some of the wallpaper was torn where someone had used a vacuum cleaner and it had scraped along the wall. The furniture was a bit outdated and could be replaced with more modern looking and the carpet was in need of a good steam cleaning or replacement.
The main bathroom was fairly large with two hand basins and a large bath. The downside was the shower recess. This was extremely small and I had difficulty in getting in and out as the sliding doors were on the wrong way and I was almost disembowled squeezing in between the small space and the taps. Once in you couldn't spread your arms out fully (or even halfway) due to the closeness of the glass. The mirror in the bathroom was extremely large, covering an entire wall but there was no exhaust fan to take away the steam.
The mirror in the main bedroom was old and had black spots all over it and the ceiling was fairly mouldy near the air conditioning vents.
There were two TV's both very old and the remotes did not work due to flat batteries but it did have broadband internet access free of charge.
The above may sound a bit harsh but the rooms were clean and the linen and towels top quality. For 3 Star hotel it was OK.
Breakfast was very good with a choice of different foods, juices and tea/coffee.
Like all hotels worldwide, the mini bar prices were extremely high and shouldn't be touched unless absolutely necessary. There are few restaurants nearby that remain open on weekends so you would have to know where to go but during the week the Hotel has a great bar and restaurant open called the Hydrant (being opposite the Fire Station) which has a great range of food and beverages, unfortunately like most of Perth everything shuts at 5:30 pm.
