“Nice room, OK if you don't mind walking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2011

For some reason we got upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment when we arrived (maybe they double booked our original room but we weren't complaining!) The room was soooo big, really nice, clean and had all the usual amenities as well as a full kitchen. The hotel had good rates for Perth (which is REALLY expensive on a good day). It wasn't too far away from the main CBD but would be a good 15 min walk, which we didn't mind. There are a few restuarants and pubs nearby if you're not fussy.

The apartment offered two decent sized bedrooms, a large living and dining area with a well equipped kitchen and a decent bathroom with bath and shower. Laundry facilities were provided in a cupboard off the kitchen. A balcony provided views towards the city and the whole apartment was air conditioned. A free bus service stopped virtually right outside the hotel although the walk to the cbd probably only took 5 minutes or so.

There were local shops for basics including a bottle shop right across the road and a couple of supermarkets in the cbd.

The staff were helpful and friendly, greeting us each time we walked through reception.

There was a small swimming pool which we used a couple of times and some gym equipment in the same area.

Hotel is well located at the end of Hay Street. Rooms are reasonably furnished with plenty of crockery and cutlery though the bathrooms need to be refurbished.. Rooms are well maintained and the staff friendly and helpful. Good choice at breakfast. Main problem is the very noisy air conditioner with unreliable temperature settings. As windows can't be opened in the bedrooms, made for discomfort at night. Windows open on to balcony but the noise from the air conditioners on the roof of the hotel restaurant were very disturbing.

We stayed at this hotel in Novemeber, it was the first trip in 4 years for my husband and I without the children so I was excited. The room was spacious but had no opening windows, the room was hot and muggy so my husband slept on the tiny couch under the air con. There was a large bathroom but no bath/spa. The pool was indoor and small and a little on the dirty side. The reception staff were great and very helpful as were the kitchen staff, a nice buffet breakfast was offered to us at a discounted rate we took it for the first night and found out upon checkout we had it for the second night even though we didnt request it, this would have been nice if we knew because we were charged for it the next day. There is a bar on the opposite corner so we had the noise on both nights.
If it weren't for the staff I wouldnt stay here again.

The Mantra on Hay is a Mantra standard fare apartment hotel. It is well positioned in East Perth just back from the river and an easy 15min walk to the city. It provides easy access by car to all major freeways around Perth. There are some good restaurants within a 5min walk of the hotel and a small grocery store across the road.
The rooms are a good size but are in urgent need of an upgrade. A lick of paint and some new carpet would make a world of difference. A really good scrub and dust throughout wouldn't hurt either.
The pool is covered and located on the roof with a small gym consisting of weight bench, running and cycling machines.
Service throughout the hotel is average at best, I had a two bedroom apartment my colleges room was cleaned the first morning however mine was missed. Teh reception staff are quite cold and disinterested especially if you want to order a cab or seek directions.
Could be so much better.

Pathetic service, no parking The male checkin guy is rude and arrogant, staff wander in and out of your room when ever they feel like it. No water pressure in shower, no hot water. No parking. Moved 3 times to find a good room. (they don't have any) And to top it off my accommodation was booked to sunday i went away for two days when i came back to my room that was covered by a order number they made up some story about me checking out, which i never did, tried to speak to duty manager but she was only interested in hearing her own wretched voice.

Don't get me wrong there were a few things i did like about the 2 bed, 2 bath unit. Good beds, nice kitchen. But!! here i go - there was no key lock on the door to the balcony. We were on the 7th Floor with two kids under 4 and i had to wedge a chair against it so they would go outside while i was on the loo. The Aircon didn't work properly and we had to have the windows open a crack for air. The noise Friday and Saturday night was like being ontop of a night club. Also the parking was limited for the number of rooms. We lucky got an itty bitty bay that we paid 25 a day for. So small i had to pass the kids out the window to get them out of the car. It is a long walk to town as well if you've got little ones. A cat goes past the front door but that's hard to jump on with prams and such. Also they haven't released the visa deposit yet and it's been nearly 5 days. Wouldn't stay at a Mantra again. A shame.
