4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

Only stayed one night but have stayed before and always enjoy. But feel the price of parking should be listed in the hotel profile so you can add it to the cost when comparing. We had breakfast included and enjoyed that as there was plenty of choice on the buffet.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

We made a last minute booking having just walked in and walked out again of where we had planned to stay, (it was awful and nowhere up to its 5 star rating)....We had never done that before and were somewhat emotional! The front desk staff member, Linda, was fantastic; professional, sympathetic and calming. We were given a lovely room, very clean and tidy and were made to feel at ease. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice and the young Dutch waiter was first class. On leaving, our porter Daniel, suggested a beautiful tour with which to fill in the time before going to the airport.

Some other info worth knowing; location is excellent for walking and viewing across the park to the Swan river; the shops, cinemas and restaurants are also within walking distance. The view from the top floor gym/spa is excellent.

I real enjoyed my stay and very happy with the upgrade. The staff are very freindly and helpfull. The rooms are very clean and well set out. The location is perfect, close to the river, buses and within easy walking distance to the city centre.
Thanks for a great stay.
Cheers
mick

We stayed here on a Saturday night after a wine tour to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Mentioned in our booking that it was our anniversary- at some hotels they are kind and provide something extra. On checking in to our room there was a card with congratulations and a complimentary sparkling wine on ice with flutes. Very impressed. The room was acceptable size and very clean. However was bit disappointed about the lack of river view. This was especially the case as my husband had booked the room thinking a river view was part of the king room benefits. Not quite the same sipping champagne looking at the apartment block next to you. The room was well equipped and comfortable but the bath recess needs freshening as it is dated (room 915). It looks to me that the hotel is undergoing some renovations so perhaps this is afoot. Got room service for dinner as we were knackered- food was hot, very tasty and arrived in good time. Pleasantly surprised. Slept very well in our dark and quiet room. Breakfast was excellent- make coffee and eggs to order. Checkout was a breeze. Could not fault the staff- friendly, efficient and courteous. Overall a very nice stay for a happy occasion.

This would probably be a three-star review were it not for the hotel's ridiculous internet pricing policies and quality. The hotel lacks character and the rooms are - while clean and accurate - clearly from a generation ago. The property lacks a pool (not a total surprise for a city center hotel, but when temperatures approach 40, you regret not staying somewhere else). No criticisms of the hotel staff, who were pleasant and helpful, even prompting me to ask for late checkout of 12pm instead of the hotel's standard 11am.

However, I cannot remember the last time I was asked to pay by MB for internet traffic. The Novotel currently offers two in-room wired packages, a two-hour and a 24-hour, both of which allow you a minimum volume of traffic, after which you can either stay online at a slow download rate until your time is up, or you can continue at normal speeds but you'll pay by MB. Adding insult to injury, an enterprising local wireless provider that has named their network "Novotel Guest Wifi," which had a perfect signal in my room. However, hotel reception knew nothing of this network and couldn't explain how to get on it. If you want or need wifi, you'll need to go down to the lobby.

I checked out after one day and moved to a hotel that had been recently renovated, was equally well-located and offered 24-hour, normal speed, perfectly working internet AND asked less for it than the Novotel.

You're not spoiled for choice for hotels in Perth and I am comparing on a global standard, so maybe a two-star rating is harsh. But it seems to me that the Novotel management needs to take a look at what their local competitors offer, and what travellers used to the Novotel brand expect, and get to work. Asking for more than AUD 150 for a room here is an insult.
