In staying at and reviewing a hotel I always look for the positives in an establishment. Unfortunately with this property I really am struggling to find too many. To be honest, it probably was one of my worst experiences of a Hotel in many years. I looked forward to my first visit to Perth (a wonderful city) and it appeared that the Rendezvous Studio Hotel was situated very close to the CBD and as I was traveling for work, this suited me.
As on departure I had a late flight I booked a late check out when making the reservation ($60)
On arrival and at check in I went to confirm that late check out only to be told that this was not listed. The clerk stated that he would list this there and then which I assumed he had done. Up to my room and immediately I sensed the first hint of disappointment. Whereas the apartment was reasonably large (=for some reason I had been give a 2 double bedroom unit (there was only me) , it soon became obvious that the accommodation area was poorly designed or managed. I trying to describe it to myself I used the expression “stark”. Firstly the lighting in the main living area (including what they call a kitchenette) was very poor. I believe that they are utilizing the new type of eco-bulbs in the lighting fixtures and frankly they are so weak that with both lights in the main living area on I could not read anything and required the extra light of a desk lamp to effectively see anything. They are simply hopelessly dim. The light in the “kitchenette” was, well… non-existent. Seriously, in looking for a glass I had to use a small torch I carry on my car keys to look in the cupboard. There is simply no light in this area. Whilst I am on about the “kitchenette” a couple of points. What is the point of having such a facility if you don’t have a kitchen sink? Nothing, you need to fill the jug or do the dishes in the Bathroom! In keeping with the “stark” theme the only cooking facilities is an old dilapidated microwave. Checking out the main bathroom I was not that surprised to discover that the start theme continued in this area.. Plain and devoid of style is how I would describe it.
Deciding that I best put my disappointment behind me and do some work I decided to set up my laptop at the workstation and log on. Looking around for Internet registration instructions, but found none listed anywhere. Thinking it must be registration on opening a browser (as many times it is) I sat down and the chair completed collapsed with me in it (no jokes about weight please). In collapsing with me in it I managed to injure my back reasonably painfully (its not got considerably worse). Picking myself up I inspected the chair and it was obvious that this chair was significantly damaged well before I sat in it. I then stumbled around in the darkness (see comments about lighting) to find a phone to ask for assistance. No phone could be found in the main area. I eventually found one in the bedroom, calling down to reception and explained that the chair had collapsed and that I had injured by back when this occurred. The clerk was apologetic about the chair and said he would bring me a new chair!!! He asked what I was doing when the chair broke I explained I was trying to log onto the wifi. He said he would bring me up a code when he brought the chair. Apparently I should have asked for a code on check in, but nothing was mentioned about this at the time. Clerk brings up another chair, gives me the code and leaves. I tell him before leaving that I had injured myself when this occurred but no assistance whatsoever (or acknowledgment given) To be fair however I was not aware of the damage I may have done at the time but an offer to have medical assistance would have been appropriate. So, having been given a log-on code (just for one day, not the two I was staying :-0. I discovered the one good thing about this hotel is that it was quite good wifi.
Feeling a little sore from my chair incident I decided to go for a walk to try tp walk off the pain. On returning I decided to have a meal in the restaurant. The bar was busy but as it was only 6.15pm the restaurant was empty so I waited and waited fotr attention by a staff member, eventually I decided to simply seat myself, still no one approached me. Still nobody around nor anyone I could approach (other that the bar staff who had customers 3 deep).
Deciding enough was enough I left and went to my room and decided to try later. In my room decided to relax and watch some television. Turned it on and a message “no channels loaded” came up. I tried everything. Unfortunately one of the two remotes present (I have no idea what the other remote was for) was missing the battery cover (it was there but broken), but this did not appear to effect the actual operation of the TV. Thinking I may be doing something wrong I looked for the instructions. The compendium in the room stated that they were “under the remote control”, but nope, they were not there! A call to the front desk resulted in a promise to send someone straight up. Nobody arrived.
The following morning on departing for work I reminded the front desk that the TV was not attended to and they promised to have it looked at during the day. It was not..
The following day after coming back after a lunch I found that my key been disabled. Frustratingly the front desk then quite rudely advised me I should have checked out by 10.00am. I informed them once again that I had booked a late check out. No apology, nothing, just a new card!
I noticed one thing that I believe may explain the lack of attention to detail at this hotel. Other than the housekeeper who was a lovely lady, not one other member of staff smiled!
I realize that this review is novel length, the issues with thia hotel dictated this.
Never again, will I stay there and I have instructed my company to cease using this establishment.
