“Great Location but the rooms are a bit tired!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

The location is brilliant especially if you want to enjoy the city and the many bars and cafes etc. The price is very good however the rooms, and really the whole place, is just a bit tired. Its a shame as it is such a beautiful old hotel and could be so nice with a bit of TLC. I still think it is very good value for money but I do think maybe a fresh coat of paint (and definitely new carpet) would make a huge difference.

If you are on a budget and you want to be right in the heart of the action and if you don't expect five star I think it is well worth staying here but still think they could do a little bit of work to update it a little.

Room Tip: The rooms on the first floor on the verandah are nice.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

We do agree that we have one of the best locations in the city where almost everything this is a stone's throw away.

We are looking forward to the coming renovations which will surely guarantee to liven the place up a few notches.

We hope that we can get the opportunity to welcome you again in the coming future.

Yours sincerely,

Brandon Lee,

I have been travelling to Perth for nearly twenty years. This is a great find which was suggested to be by a local. It is excellent value for money, well located and helpful and friendly staff. It is an old pub from the 1800s but the rooms have been refurbished to provide comfortable modern accommodation but inside an historic building. Try to get a room which faces on to the verandah if you can and consider forking out for slightly higher rate for a suite they are very comfortable indeed. Hotels in Perth are notoriously bad and overpriced, with many of the so called 5 star ones just unspeakably bad, expensive and in need of a refurbishment for more then 15 years, I almost dont want everyone to find out about the Melbourne as it may become hard to get into given the small number of rooms.

Room Tip: Room with verandah access and/or a suite are highly recommended, but standard rooms are still very p...

This was the first hotel we stayed at during our visit to Perth. The hotel looks impressive and grand on the outside. It's centrally located at Hay Street and opposite a free CAT bus stop. We enjoyed eating at the Pasta Cup restaurant right opposite the hotel. This hotel is also conveniently located near two car rentals (if you need them).

We had a double room and found it clean and spacious. Furnishings were traditional wooden, but overall the room was very well-maintained and hygenic. I also admired the old elevator that was still in use in the hotel. Imagine all the people who've travelled in that same elevator over the years!

I will definitely stay here again the next time I visit Perth city.

We stayed here for New Years Eve and after an initial "mixup" with our room, we thoroughly enjoyed the stay, highly recommend the "Suite Rooms" they are bigger and open up onto a common veranda, we sat here the next morning overlooking a wonderfully quite CBD and ate our continental breakfast which was delivered to our room as the restaurant was closed New Years Day.
Bed was comfortable, the room, clean & tastefully furnished, spacious bathroom and it actually had character which is hard to find.
I loved the old lift! At first we thought it wasn't in service anymore, but soon discovered otherwise, needless to say we had to use it a couple of times just because...
Basically we'd definitely return, great base to explore the city at a great price.

Referred to as 'meeting room one' by us in the office across the street, The Melbourne will meet your thirsty needs with anything you could want in a city pub. Sports are on a number of televisions when it's a good game and the space in the room allows for larger groups. Not somewhere I would go on my own/ with the lovely lady as it's not particularly special, (although the restaurant more than measures up), a group of beer buddies on a Friday night won't be disappointed.

The Melbourne Hotel is well placed in the CBD and a great lookibg buildibg with restaurant, bar and cafe. The rooms are large, spacious and clean. The staff are very helpful and the food and bevarages are great but I am not a fan of no windows in my room whichbis the case with a number of the rooms booked by my colleagues and I. It's quite disorienting so make sure you request a balcony suite. If you don' t care about this then go for it. Its also close to other great cafes and bars and to kings park, the mall and other places of interest.

We stayed at The Melbourne recently as it was a leisurely 5 minute stroll to the Perth Arena where we were attending the Muse concert. Our superior room was spacious and very clean. The room had robes, tea/coffee facilities & the usual amenities. The fittings were quite charming, especially the curtains and small chandelier. French doors led onto the wide balcony with wicker furniture and ornate iron balcony. The bathroom was modern and again, quite spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. Sections of the hotel do need refurbishing but we thought it was exceptionally good value for what we paid. The staff were friendly and happy to assist in any way. I would recommend this hotel as our stay was a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Get a superior or delux room.
