“Nearly there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014

Arrived at 6.30pm for a 7pm booking, they had no record of it, but found us a table anyway. The soups were lovely, the 4 prawns in garlic sauce to die for but not cheap. Beef cheek just perfect, mushroom dish consisted of just the one mushroom for $30. Wine by the glass poured by a bottle at the table as it should be. Service was efficient. As all that have been here are aware, the tables are extremely close together, so there is no privacy re conversation and you can hear every word spoken by the couples either side. Getting out to go to the restroom is a squeeze job. There is a two hour rush on the table, and people are literally `waiting at the door for you to go and the table to be re-set. I couldn't do justice to the food as the courses came out to quickly, unfortunately. My girlfriend didn't like the vibe, I did.

“Reasonable food with very average service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2014

The atmosphere at P'tite Ardoise Bistro on a Saturday evening is everything you would expect from a popular French bistro. Everything was authentic; the noise of happy patrons, the food, the very average service and the surly chef who does not even bother to smile at his customers as he walks by. A true slice of Paris in Perth.

Food was good but not spectacular. Not a fine dining establishment but a good bistro. I'd return for the braised beef cheeks and the steak frites but not anytime soon.

My recommendations are as follows:

1) Make sure you check your glasses before they put water into it. I had a dirty glass which ruined the taste of the water. The waitress changed it for a clean class without batting an eyelid. I would have been mortified if it had happened in my restaurant but obviously the wait staff here are not as concerned about dirty dishes.

2) I do not recommend the Îles flottantes unless you want a truly Type 2 diabetes inducing moment.

“Excellent service and pricey.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

We went here fore the first time recently on a Friday night after having booked a couple of weeks before as it is a busy, small restaurant. The service was excellent. All the wait staff were French, as well as the owner. We were placed at a table for 2 in the main part of the restaurant which was not good as there is an isle on either side. We had waiters constantly brushing past us in both isles to get food to tables and talk to patrons. Once the restaurant filled up it was claustrophobic. There is no personal space as the tables are crammed in. The food was good but expensive. The $48 steak was disappointing, for that price I expect it to melt in my mouth which it did not. The $22 entre for three prawns in a sauce was delicious and $18 for a thin slice of terrine - tasty but think the pricing is over the top. My husband had the sampling of desserts which he enjoyed. The bread was offered all through the meal in true French style and it is licenced but can BYO wine for $10 corkage. There seems to be no dress code as there were folks well dressed and others in shorts and tshirts so if you are looking for a romantic, upmarket type restaurant this is not it. If you are happy to paying high prices then give it a go possibly during the week will be quieter.

“Best restaurant in Perth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

I have been many time's to p'tite Ardoise over the last few years, every time is just as good. Excellent food and service. It really feels like I'm back in France. The quality, price & portion size is right, unlike most so called fine dining restaurant's in perth.

“lovely way to spend a wet Saturday evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

P’tite Ardoise (little blackboard in French) has been around for a few years now. It occupies a space that once housed Alt Heidelberg (a German Restaurant), and for a short time a well above average Steak restaurant.

Saturday nights tend to be busy and so you often have to pick a two hour sitting either at 6pm or 8pm. We chose the earlier sitting and wandered across Northbridge on a particularly wet, late Saturday afternoon.

Our waiter (a lovely guy from the Champagne region of France) persuaded us to have a glass of champagne as an aperitif whilst we were deciding what to eat.

For entrees we went for a homemade country terrine and a fois gras brulee and for main course a Classique Cassoulet and a Vegetable Medley.

To accompany these dishes we chose a nice dry bottle of Sancerre.

The entrees arrived promptly and as expected were nice and rich. The fois gras brulée was very smooth in texture but as it had a seasoned covering of breadcrumbs there was a lovely contrast. The terrine was densely packed with meat and had both a plum and an apple sauce to highlight its flavors.

The main courses were also fabulous with the Cassoulet having a perfectly cooked duck leg, pork belly and a game sausage. The seasoning and flavours were spot on. The Vegetable Medley was equally rich with mushrooms sautéed in butter and in a creamy sauce, pumpkin gratin and potato croquettes.

By this stage we were pretty full but in order to help finish off the wine we had Teurgoule which is a cinnamon rice pudding that originates in the Normandy region. This dish is cooked in a clay pot and it develops a crispy sweet crust on top not unlike a crème brulée. Accompanied by a small ball of vanilla ice cream and a sugar crystal topped biscuit (in the shape of the Tour d’Eiffel) It was gorgeous and a perfect finish to the meal.

The front of house team were very efficient and polite so making it a lovely evening.
