My husband and I dined at Rockpool on a busy Saturday night. I was impressed with the look and feel of the place - yes it is dark but it definitely makes it feel more intimate and romantic, especially as there are a lot of tables. We were seated in a small area of only about 8 tables next to the wall. Yes you can hear snippets of other people's conversations if you wanted to but we just blocked it out and it wasn't at all a problem.
We shared the quail as a starter which was fantastic - the flavours were spot on. For mains we had the chicken, grain fed steak, with sides of roasted pumpkin and sweet potato, onion rings and grilled zucchini. Everything was exactly as I would expect for the price, I couldn't fault any off the food. The meals and sides are on the larger side and we couldn't finish everything.
There are plenty of people commenting on here about poor service. We had nothing but wonderful service all night long. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable and very friendly. They were always there offering us more bread and drinks when they noticed our glasses were empty.
The only negative remark I can give Rockpool is the lack of wine options by the glass. I was the only one drinking wine and didn't want to fork out for a full bottle, and the only Sav Blanc option was from France (not a fan). Other than that, we had a really nice night out at Rockpool and we will definitely return.
