“Royal ? Maybe once ?!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Ok , I'm here on medical visit so I want to be walking distance to R P H . This time I'm trying the Royal . I'm paying approximately $ 90 a night for a single bedsit with shared ( his n hers ) bathroom facilities . This is an one of the old buildings mid 1800 s ) of Perth , so it has these quirky things ! While my room is small it does have a hand basin , small frig n tea / coffee facilies and it's all very clean . Down side is the noise ! Late night traffic noise then early morn traffic noise ! There are no lifts so be prepared for a trudge up to ur room and remember u have to walk the corridors to use the bathroom facilities . Bed comfortable but would I stay there again ? Probably not but it was convient n " cheap " .

Stayed 5 nights after reading the reviews here on tripadvisor ( thanks for those reviews). Great room - large, clean, comfortable, all the conveniences you need e.g. iron & ironing board (in good condition) etc. Not so good if you are a 'must have air-conditioning' person as there was none in my room however, the fan and being able to open the windows and have some fresh air was brilliant. I booked with ensuite bathroom which was also large, spotlessly clean, fantastic shower. Super convenient for pretty much everything - shops of every description, (cafes, clothing, supermarket and food hall next door), transport ( bus & train services across the road), cultural and entertainment precinct within walking distance. Will be my choice for future trips to Perth.

I stayed in a single room with shared bathroom for 1 night. The hotel is near the sopping strip, which makes it convenient for me on my first day to get myself oriented. The room was really clean and the bed comfortable.

Likes:
- Location
- Cleanliness
- Good sized room for a single

Dislikes:
- The ladies shower and toilet has a code lock. Not convenient in times of toilet emergencies! The gents were accessible with the room's key card though.
- No lift, and the shared rooms are on the 2nd floor.

I booked a night at the Royal on the end of the long weekend and to be honest only stayed here because everywhere else in Perth was booked out. BUT after a mix up with the address and position on a printed google map, and a phonecall or two, what a surprise!
The room was roomy, clean and tidy and functional. The windows opened and (despite a warning on the site I booked through that there wasn't,) there was airconditioning and heating. The bathroom was spacious and meticulously clean.
The Hotel oozes with old world charm with high ceilings and sweeping stairway, and was within walking distance of every meeting I needed to attend.
And yes I would stay there again and recommend it to anyone popping into Perth for a night or two.

Room Tip: Book a double with ensuite.

I was looking over the internet for a cheap place to stay for a night in Perth and the Royal Hotel did the trick. Although I must say that the room I ended up in was rather on a smaller side, thinking it was lucky that I didn’t bring my cat along because I wouldn’t be able to swing it in there. I asked for the cheapest deal and I got it, (shared bathroom). The room had a basin, fridge, cupboard, TV, small desk and a chair, and lastly a single bed. A typical garret with a small dormer window. No complains. But I must admit that the room and its view over a neighbouring building’s wall were reminiscent of a starving artist’s lodgings during the depression. On a brighter side, the light bouncing of the next door’s wall in the morning was filling the room rather nicely. If you are not fussy I would recommend to stay a night to experience what it was like staying in a hotel in Australia a few decades ago. Great staircase.
