“A hole - Don't stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2011

What a dump. We unfortunately stayed for 2 nigths. We were walking to the YHA and saw this place. The reception are seemed ok and the rooms were cheap so we did it. We walked through the doors to the actual minging hostel and it's just gross. We stayed in a smelly, dirty 4 bed cramped dorm. The bathroom was seriously bad, half the showers didn't work, the ones that did were a drizzle, no luu rool and hair everywhere. the stairs are like falling!! the carpet smells and looks smelly and crusty. There's a tv room which is just bad and the kitchen is dirty with no proper equipment and the common area is manky chairs and tables scattered round a massive room. One night the fire alarm went off and we had to stand on the pavement for an hour in our pjs cause people smoking in the rooms set it off. It's supposed to be 24 hour reception, but they just walk off and you can't find them for a while - bit annoying when you want to checkout and get your deposit for the key back. Which we didn't even use as you could open the locked door with no key anyway as it had been kicked in so many times. just don't do it! Seriously!!

i agree this place has to be knocked down, everything is falling apart nothing works. really bad vibe as soon as u enter the place. staff are rude. we arrived a few days ago and checked in for 2 nights before we'd seen the place. eventually got into our room at 12 after the owners bf messed about for and hour and a half. absolutely useless human being. showers were covered in hair, bed sheets are just thrown on bed, probably still dirty, theres rats, probably everything running around in this dump...do avoid at all costs, but if u have to stay here u wont forget it for the wrong reasons!

Room Tip: sleep on streets

After arriving back from overseas and feleling rather jet lagged, i sum how mangaged to come out of the train station and stumble into this dark, gloomy and thilthy hole. firstly i had paid up for two nights and after going past those doors of no return i found myself in hell, within 2 mins of checking in i seen a rat the size of a small yorkshire terrior run throught the kitchen, then climbed the rickety squeeky staircase to find the 14 bed dorm which smelt like an landfill and the bed which was wobbly, peoples belonging everywhere and matresses that have seen better days.
Even though the room was a dump i will say i have meet some very entertaining charecters there, personally my favorate was a man called steve, hes a right charmer with the ladies and does not miss a chance to dropp a compliment to the ladies. He actualy picked up a live cockroach which was running around the place and ate it, theres a few other long termers there as well uncle Albert, mr Bean & a cheeky english lad named neil just to name a few!!!

ALL IM SAYING IS DONT STAY HERE IS ITS ROTTEN AND FULL OF STRANGE PEOPLE.

I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not - this place should be knocked down!
We were on our way to the gleaming YHA down the road when we took a chance on Grand Central - sucked in by their cheap rates. What a huge mistake!
We paid upfront without seeing the communal areas or the room but as soon as we left Reception, we knew it wasn't going to be good. Rickety old staircase, worn-out dirty carpet in communal areas. The rooms are horrible with loads of left-over stuff from previous guests that no-one's ever bothered to throw out. The bunk-beds look like they're going to fall apart and we didn't know what linen to use as everything was just left in a heap on the beds.
The toilets are absolutely grotesque. There were 2 near our room which were so filthy I refused to set foot in them, there were some other female toilets down a long, grungy, dimly-lit corridor (this place is scary at night) which were equally filthy, but I had to shower somewhere.
We took one look at the disgusting kitchen - filled with so much junk - that we decided to eat out. We also saw a rat scurry in from an outside door - horrible.
Seriously, if I had read the other reviews on here I would have avoided the place, but we didn't check beforehand. I strongly advise never to set foot in this absolutely awful place.

After driving 4hours to Perth we were looking for somewhere to get our head down for the night before our long flight home.
With all the hotels expensive and other backpackers full we decided to stay here.
When we were checking in we were offered a twin room to ourselves but were advised would be bunk beds, not a problem.
It was not until we put in the code to the door to access the accomodation we realised what a big mistake we had just made . It was like stepping into a house of horrors.
The hallways were dark and dingey with hardly any or no lighting. We opened the door to our room and gasped in horror. The window was boarded up as if someone has smashed it....probably trying to get out.
The sink was only being held up by 1/2 a pool cue, and the room smelt very very stale indeed.
After plucking up the courage to venture to the restrooms the experience just got worse....
It looked as if someone had shaved their body and left it on the floor . The toilets had never seen any bleach and the showers were disgusting.
There was tiles missing on 70% of the walls . In one cubicle there was no hot tap and only one light barely hanging onto the wall by exposed wires all the other lighting was missing and was just the plastic casing ...and this was to provide light for a 3 sinks , 2 showers and 3 toilets.

We decided to spend as little time as possible in this accomodation.
When we did decide to get our heads down , we were that worried about the state of the beds we took the option to sleep in our clothes and tuck our trousers into our socks, and even put a t shirt over the pillow due to the worry of getting bitten.

I would seriously research places before staying and always prebook something in Perth as it gets very busy .

I booked the hostel before reading trip advisor. Fortunately, I read it on the airport bus and when I arrived, asked to check out the room. The backpackers smelt of smoke, it was filthy and the single room really small. The sheets were probably clean, but very old. The other people staying there were a mixed bunch, but did not make me feel entirely comfortable. The guy at reception was very obliging (he was new) and did not charge me for the room (did not refund the deposit which was part of the deal anyway). He also gave me recommendations of places nearby. I have pretty low standards (having spent a lot of time in Asia) but would not recommend stating here, despite the price. It had a terrible vibe

This has to be the worst place I have stayed in during extensive travels. There are holes in the wall, the beds have bugs, the bathrooms have not been cleaned, the bunk bed almost collapsed the first night due to it not being properly secured, and locks on many of the rooms are broken. Do not stay here.
