I have been staying at the Mangrove irregularly over a period of 15 years and the new management are doing an excellent job in restoring this fabulous venue to its former glory. Further, a great deal of money is about to be spent to bring the overall facility up to better than most in the area. This is exciting to me as it already has the best views.
When you visit Broome, be aware that most hotels do NOT have sea views. The Mangrove has the best in Broome without any doubt. It is perfectly situated, (In my opinion ) a short walk to Chinatown and most shops.
The new manager, Andrew, has already made a huge difference and is very approachable. Add to this a very large and complete refurbishment, to a venue that is already excellent in virtually every way and I know I will be back.
The hotel has had some very dicey management over the time I have been staying there, as any Broome regular will tell you. What is actually a very beautiful place has been downgraded by some very silly decisions. The reversal of this is now plainly evident.
Criticisms? I have mentioned the limited range of beers at the bar and this is soon to be remedied. I would also have a couple of sports type TV's around the place. (Some would disagree, as it may spoil the relaxing atmosphere, just my preference.)
Management and staff, views, rooms, bed quality and just plain good service are essential to any traveller and I can now safely recommend the Mangrove to anyone on all these points.
One mystery to me is the fact that ALL small children, spend the afternoon or evening, running nonstop across and around the lawn areas. Why they all do this I don't know but they seem to love it. I would be happy for anyone to explain it to me.
I have long considered the outdoor bar and lawn restaurant the best in Australia. Anyone who knows me will attest to that. The staff are excellent and the overall experience is relaxation and just enjoyment, whilst the kids do their Olympic running trials.
With the money to be spent early in the new year I cant wait to get back there and enjoy what is already an excellent venue. I strongly recommend it to all travellers.
