“Amazing steam buns, authentic Chinese style!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

I haven't had a sit down meal at this place, but I have had their steamed buns, golden sand bun is my top favourite and I was very surprised as you can't even find it everywhere in Hong Kong (place of origin)! The shop front is definitely small and can be easily missed, but hunt it down if you will and you will not be disappointed! Once inside, it is a fairly compact restaurant with cramped seating, but this is very typical of restaurants in Hong Kong. The whole point is that it is a place to have some quick food and go. You will also see lots of large bamboo steamers as well as windows of Chinese steamed buns. If you are lucky, you can get steamed buns straight away, these will be the more popular BBQ pork buns, custard and lotus seed buns. If you want one of the less popular buns, yet also very tasty, you might have to wait for it to be steamed, depending on the time of day. The store opens at 11am through until 2am/3am! One stop definitely not to miss throughout any time of the year!

“amazing baos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

nam loong serves the best chinese buns in town in many varieties savory or sweet such as chicken and mushroom, bbq pork, custard, red bean, the list goes on.

winter is a great time for their wonderful baos, steaming hot and juicy, they warm your heart and satiate your palate. great for snacks too when you are on the run.

the restaurant may be very basic, but their food on the menu is just as good, tasty and authentic.

“Tasty buns, rude service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Their buns are quite good, but definitely not for the dishes served from this restaurant. However, it was he worst service I have ever experienced in restaurant! Need to argue with the rude old chinese woman over there! Wont go back for their dishes, but maybe just for the buns until I can find the replacement upon this [--] service!

“Best steamed buns in Melbourne.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

It's just a small door you can easily miss, but once inside you have to squeeze past the other diners. Always busy, with a great selection od Chinese food and cheap as chips. Nam Loong has excellent pork, combination, and sausage buns cooking in metre wide steamers at the front for takeaway or sit down. I've often ducked in and grabbed a few before hitting the movies in Bourke Street. A bit crowded for sit down but I'll be back.
