“Cheap eat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

You can get a plate of 1 meat and 2 vegie with rice or roti canai for $10. The mee goreng here is nice and not so dry. They sell pasembo (indian rojak or salad) on weekends.

“Lived up to its reputation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

I organised a degustation for 6 people and everyone went away laughing and smiling. To me, food has to be creative, executed well, adventurous and value for money. For a place which has received huge exposure through its chef George and his cookbooks, this place lives up to his reputation. The decor is beautiful and the food came out well timed. The chef, George was in and he came to say hi and even posed cheesy photos with us. The only failure, the waitress gave me lip for getting tap water. No tip for her!

“As authentic as it can get”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

The food here tastes awesome with all the right amount of spices. High authenticity Indian cuisine. Cleanliness is a bit questionable though.

“Authentic Malaysian-Indian food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012 via mobile

We live in Melbourne and our family and friends have been to Rich Maha at their original store in Vermont South and to their Melbourne City store many many times and enjoyed the food (without any gastro-related ill effects, so we do not understand the other reviewers rather terse comment).

The decor is very basic - formica/laminex tables and chairs, ceramic tiles on the floor, and some tired-looking pictures on the walls. However, we don't go there for the decor, we go there for the authentic Malaysian-Indian food.

Who would call a dish 'Chicken 65'??? Only the chefs at Rich Maha. Not sure of the origins of the name, but if you like a dry chicken curry spiced up with dried chillies, then this is the dish for you.

Generally, they vary their pre-cooked food offerings regularly and you can choose to have either a la carte or a thali. If you choose a thali, you have a choice of vegetarian or meat/vegetarian for a set price. Both allow 3 different curries with rice and samba. Their rice is briyani/basmati rice as is traditional with Malaysian-Indian restaurants.

Bottled and can drinks are average price, or you can have tap water in a chrome cup - just like in Malaysia.
