“Great food and atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

I'm not a fan of restaurants that won't take a booking and unfortunately we arrived at 7.30 to be told there was a wait. At lunch time we checked the place out and were told we would have no trouble getting a table. Oh well, we got a couple of coffee tables joined together to make up for our disappointment by the same girl who we saw at lunch time. At least she did her best to help. We really enjoyed sharing the charcuterie plate and then our delicious mains - the lamb neck was relished by one and a few of us had the gnocchi which was really tasty. The wine prices hurt but our dishes were reasonably priced. It was a bit odd though when our mains arrived all our entree dishes had not been cleared so the waiter had to juggle putting down dishes whilst picking up dirty plates. We would come again but maybe get in earlier.

Well kept and plenty of variety. Also by the Yarra so can take that in as well and maybe walk along to Southbank for lunch

“The Botanical”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

The Botanical is my local coffee house, brunch place, lunch venue, meeting spot, bar hangout, lazy Sunday newspaper locale. It may not always deliver perfect service, though the attentive staff do their absolute best. The coffee, snacks, meals and bar offerings may not have Michelin panting for an inclusion but are always good, and sometimes very good, value. Indeed, the current $20 lunch and evening specials are exceptional value. And the Botanical-Garden facing tables and seats are divine no matter the season.

“Lovely Sunday lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

I was a little concerned after reading other Trip Advisor reviews but I have nothing but good words to say. The service was attentive without being constant (although we did have several dishes brought to us that weren't ours but that really didn't matter!). As it was a Sunday they had a roast for $16 and although it wasn't a traditional roast with potatoes and veg it was delicious. Just beautiful lamb. The wine list is quite pricey. And my vegetarian friend only had 2 dishes to choose from but selfishly I really enjoyed our starter plate of cured meats and pate, etc. Lovely Sunday lunch spot.

“You must have to be one of the "in" people to be cared about here!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013 via mobile

Attended Saturday before Mothers Day. Wife and two children in tow, today was our "Mothers Day". We had walked 'the Tan' and were looking for a place to grab some lunch and get Mum a latte and glass of bubbles.

There were three or four open fronted restaurants in this strip. We decided on The Bot as we had been there pre children when run by Chris Lucas and co. Loved the experience then and even though we knew there were new operators still decided to give it a go.

Sadly we didn't fit into one of the current staffs demographic. Seems quiet babies in designer glam prams are ok, not children of eating and talking age. We were also not a trendy pre child couple in our designer sports wear, or a couple whose children had flown the coupe! And didn't we feel like we shouldn't have been there.

15 minutes with no one coming near us, having to get up and get our own menus and wine list, no eye contact from anyone and finally when we do make contact are told that "I'll be back when I can".

No explanation of specials, no offer to explain the menu. NOTHING. I felt like when I was in a NSW Leagues club and wanted the (AFL) footy score. Clearly we were not wanted. And it isn't as if the place was full! They were at about 25%.

In the end I got the dear wife her latte, I had a watery "strong iced coffee" that cost $6.50 if you don't mind, and the kids shared a chocolate milk and we left.

Next time we walk the tan, we will go to one of the other friendlier looking places. I'm sure they would appreciate our lunch money.
