I took out my husband to Rockpool at Crown for a steak and shiraz extravaganza for his birthday. First impression of entrance and decor of this large restaurant is something else. Very dim lighting, very sexy - not for everyone. We were seated on the window side of the flaming fireballs which was very theatrical (and distracting while talking to waitress!). We ordered salads for entree - octopus and tomato and marinated veg with goats curd. Both were incredible, and marinated veg salad quite substantial in size. Ordered a grain fed eye fillet med rare and scotch fillet grass fed med rare to compare. Both absolutely amazing in different ways. The best steak I have ever tasted, no blood which I think comes from the dry aging. However you do pay through the nose for this privilege. Lovely sides. Perfect accompanying McClaren Vale shiraz. My husband was in heaven. However our amazing night came to a standstill when our waitress announced that our time was up and served up a complimentary cupcake to the birthday boy as a sign to pay the bill and vacate our table for the next people. This was quite disappointing as I am a big dessert person and there was no time for coffee. We had to go to the food court to get one. I would still return as I am a huge fan of Neil Perry but maybe study the menu online and order as quick as you can! Yes, the meat is pricey, but his normal mains and entree prices are typical of a two hat restaurant.
