“Amazing dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

We were very lucky to get a cancellation a week before our visit having been put on the waiting list and also as a bonus we dined here on the last night of your trip to Australia.
We have been lucky enough to dine in many fine Michelin starred restaurants and I think where this restaurant stands out is the fabulous presentation and innovative way unusual and also basic ingredients are prepared. For example we had wallaby tail cooked rare and in another course a potato as the main part of the dish. Both tasted amazing in their different ways.
The whole experience was unexpected and delicious including a trip outside to see one of their many gardens for marshmallows we cooked over a fire and apple cider.
Service was excellent and friendly.
Melbourne should feel very lucky to have this restaurant. An excuse to make the trip back to Oz I think!

Every experience from the first step through the front door is first class - the friendly and informative service, the restaurant presentation, the hand-crafted dinnerware, the food presentation and oh THE FOOD! Congratulations Ben Shewry, you are a culinary magician!!

“Memorable food experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Had the mid-week 8 course tasting menu.
Better people than I have put this on the list of top restaurants in the world and it's not hard to see why given the venue, the service, the food and the experience which are all slick and first rate.
Whilst you (only) get eight dishes actually you have a constant progression of extras with pre dinner tasting morsels, each delightful, as well as a tour of the vegetable and herb garden out the back complete with mulled apple juice (?) and roasted marshmallow, and post dinner treat. It was my birthday and their version of a chocolate brownie birthday cake will be a memory for a long time!
Each of the eight dishes was its own standout of presentation and flavours.
If you want a food experience then this is your place.

“Simply the best and most innovative in Australia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

It was truly a memorable experience, the ATTICA staff were, unlike the staff at Sydney three hat restaurants, totally unpretentious and gracious, the food was innovative and sufficient and delicious. There were a number of extras/surprises not on the menu - (one of which was quite novel and nothing similar offered elsewhere) which was a nice touch. We would highly recommend this as currently the best dining experience in Australia.

“A live spider and a worm in our main course! Are you kidding me?!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

As a food blogger, when I travelled to Melbourne this time, the most wanted restaurant on my list was "Attica". Yes, World No. 21, 3 Hats, Celebrity Chef, The best of the best in Australia... You know what I mean. But the result is rather, disappointing...
The environment is nice, all the dishes are highly skilled, contemporary but a bit overly "intellectual" and "technical" in my personal opinions. Overall it's Okay for the price.
However, the biggest disappointment, maybe can call it "an shocking, unexpected experience" was when our main dishes the Wagyu beef came, 2 out of 3 plates, there were a little live spider in one plate, and a other live worm in another plate! They were literally moving on the garish herbs! It is so obvious that the kitchen DID NOT WASH THEIR HERBS!! Of course the restaurant manger came immediately, changed our dishes, apologies that the herbs are ORGANIC. Yes, I guess they are organic but how can a fine dining restaurant at this level NOT WASH their herbs before serving the customers?
From that moment on, we felt quite awfully and quickly finished the rest of the meal. The restaurant gave us an extra dessert dish as a way to say sorry but we were not in the mood to eat it. For the whole evening, the image of the worm & spider continue to appear in my head......
