“Great simple food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Visiting Coda on a Saturday for lunch. Had some great dishes. Coda is a good place for a Melbourne 'lane way' dining experience. Food and service consistently good. I loved the cauliflower dish.

“Burst of Amazing Flavours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

What a delightful experience! The chef de cuisine and the pastry chef create multiple, complementary flavours in delightful dishes. We chose multiple starters to share between the two of us, although the main dishes looked amazing, as well.

While the restaurants does not take reservations, we were seated at the bar relatively quickly, and it's a fun place to watch the open kitchen.

Melbourne is a city for foodies, and Coda delivers on flavour, atmosphere, and value.

“a special night”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

We decided to return to Coda after more than 12 months but did so with some concern after reading a number of less than glowing reviews. We need not have worried as everything was perfect, starting with a warm welcome from the floor staff even though it was a full restaurant on a busy Sunday night. Service was faultless and the advice provided regarding the menu was thoughtful and to the point. Before finalising our food order John, the sommelier, spent a deal of time with us ensuring that the wines were an excellent match to the food. Far from being pretentious he really added value to our overall experience and as a result of his detailed wine knowledge we enjoyed wines we would not have otherwise selected. We selected a series of starters and entrees rather than mains and matched some interesting side dishes. We finished off with a shared dessert and, as requested, they spaced out the courses so that we at no stage felt rushed or pressured. Romantic, professional and excellent quality and value made it a special night for us and we will be back - sooner next time.

“Indulge yourself!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Loved the industrial feel and also being below street level, watching the people walk by in the high-up windows was neat. Terrific service. I was by myself and was seated at the bar. This was great as I could watch the chefs at work in the kitchen behind, and I found that fascinating. The decor is great. The wine was delicious. The food excellent. It's not the cheapest place but I knew that beforehand and thoroughly enjoyed it as a treat.

“Unfailing quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

My fourth visit to Coda in a twelve month period. If you can get a last minute booking here, it's the perfect place for a comfortably casual but totally classy dinner. Probably the best value for food in this quality range - order half the things you'd like to eat from the diverse menu and you'll be struggling to finish but ahead financially compared with most fine dining establishments in the city. On the down side, the pricey winelist will lighten your pocket. Service is prompt and pleasant, noise can be a little high at times, but the food is well worth it. From the tasty and very generous mouthfuls at the beginning of the list via the consistently moorish tuna salad to the enormous chicken diablo and the scrumptious desserts, it's impossible not to fall for at least two new dishes each visit.
