“Spectacularly average”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

The hotel is soon to become part of the Ibis budget series, which pretty much sums up the overall atmosphere of the hotel. The hotel is on par with the quality of accommodation on offer from the YHA backpacker accommodation, which is a lot cheaper for the quality that is on offer. The room is very basic and bland, with a TV, and very compact bathroom/toilet space. The only thing that is offered is soap and towels for the bathing. No coffee/tea on offer, nor any cups/glasses for water. The quality of sleep was impaired by the sound of slamming doors throughout the night (sounded like someone was smashing up the room on the floor above.

I'm sure that if the circumstances were different, I would have had a better night's sleep. However, for the price you pay at this hotel you can find better quality within the CBD. Hopefully, the new alliance with the Ibis Budget brand will see the rooms priced at the value it is truly worth, and becomes a viable alternative to backpacker accommodation.

Hi myoung023,

Your stay with us seems to have been a bit of a nasty shock, you have my sincere apologies for the obvious disappointment you experienced.
That’s certainly not our aim in life - disappointing people. Please contact me directly at the hotel if there are specific aspects of your stay you would like me to address.
To anyone experiencing any issues during their stay please come and see us at reception so we can do something about it at the time. We want and need you to be happy with your stay.
Prices are always subjective of course, our prices go from $69 to $179, the top end of that Is too much to charge for the style of room we have here.......However
We are market & demand driven. So if we are charging $179 for a room, you will not get another in the CBD on that night for a lower price - the city is heavily booked to Full. If we are charging $100 for a room in the CBD this represents incredibly good value as it's the Location you are paying for with us Not the room. People really need to understand that, just as we understand people have a much higher expectation when paying $149 - but our rooms remain the same – which can then lead to some disappointments along the way.
We would encourage everyone to shop around - if you normally stay 3 to 5 star, you may well not be really comfortable here with us, you are the best judge for what you need in your hotel room / experience / location. If you see city prices creeping up all over the place this means rooms are filling and will soon be sold out - book early whenever you can, to secure good prices.
We can give you, lovely staff, a compact room with shower, toilet & TV - but that’s about it.
We hope you had a great time in Melbourne and would love to welcome you back in the future should we suit your needs.
Safe Travels.
Kind Regards,
Tracy.

hotel is in great location, middile of CBD with walking distance to all main attractions within the Melbourne CBD. surrounded with supermarkets n restaurents n cafes etc. so this is very convienient. for a location like this, price was less. you cant ask any less. Rooms were small but clean n comfy. reception staff was friendly n helpfull, in the night no one is available. main door is closed and you can only get thru with your room access card. i didnt try out the food there, so cant comment. i stayed for 2 nights, on the 2nd night, early morning around 3am it was noisy as some drunk guests were playing hell in the corridor. as walls were thin, it would have been hard for the other guests to sleep.

Room Tip: do not get any room near the lift or begining of the corridor. guests moving in and out may disturb...

Hi Megatron,
(don't say that very often)

Thanks for taking time out to post a reveiw. We are really happy you loved the location. It's our best feature for sure.

Weekends can get rowdy as people are out to dinner, receptions, parties or night clubbing etc, and sometimes come back using their drunk QUIET VOICES, which as we all know - are not really that quiet.

Please let us know at reception if you ever have noise issues as we can do something about it for you. We also have security on hand both Friday & Saturday Nights after 10 to assist in keeping noise down so you can talk with them too.

So glad you had a good time in Melbourne. Thank you for staying with us, we hope we can welcome you back in the future, should we suit your travel needs.

Safe Travels.
Kind Regards,
Tracy

Having already had a look inside another hotel in the group I knew what to expect. I knew it would be fairly basic but reasonably priced which is what I wanted. As for size because I was on my own there was plenty of room and I could spread out. As well there were no issues with privacy re the abolutions which are separated only by a curtain. I found it well located close to the intersection of Collins and Elizabeth street so plenty of tram connections and Flinders St station a major hub as well as Federation square. I had a quiet dark room as requested for my 11 nights, the only annoying thing I found was the green glow from the smoke detector directly above my bed. The staff could hardly have been more helpful. I would stay again but realise for some people it may be a wee bit tatty with some minor damage sustained to walls and corners etc as the guests are often a bit rough; young blokes having a night on the town or gaggles of hens. Needs a spruce up. The pictures of other hotels in the downstairs corridor included The Canberra Formule 1 - just looking at it was enough to make me want to slit my wrists - it looked very depressing.

Room Tip: Probably a good idea to keep away from rooms facing Elizabeth St. The guests are a mix of ordinary p...

Dear Nicholas S,

Thanks for your straight forward description of your stay, I love it when people are direct.
We are due (overdue) for a spruce up and my handyman Tuck does a great job of chasing his tail to attend any major issues and damage - the little stuff often gets pushed down the priority list. We are aware of this and we are onto it.
We are very much looking forward to some painting early in the new year, and we are just waiting on new brand standards for flooring until we can get in and replace some carpets.
We can clean them one day and have them trashed by babies, school groups or red wine / cola / red cordial / hair dye - all gone sideways, that same weekend - never ending :)
It's a matter of going from 7th floor to 1st and then starting all over again.
I am currently looking for something to replace the lobby pictures with. Happy to receive recommendations.
Thanks for choosing to stay with us - I hope we see you again.
Safe Travels.
Kind Regards,
Tracy.
