“Impressive, yet a little pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

With a group of 12 friends, we chose the $90 degustation lunch. It was quite imptressive, particularly the starters. There ws a problem with the main courses though (a rib-eye steak dish and a roasted pork dish). Some of the steak was very sinu-ey. And there was very little pork served up (most of us got just a very small taste). At $90 I thought they were robbing us a little by serving up such small amounts for the "main courses". The deserts were very well rated by those who like deserts. Harry our waiter was very good and helped us select good wines from the low-price end of their very extensive wine list. All up it cost us $180/head.

“The Best Melbourne has”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2011

Wow. The food here is outstanding and exceptional value for what you get. Have been in twice for dinner this year already because it was so good. Karen Martini knows her stuff.

The quality of produce is great. The waiters know their wines and know the menu well should you have any questions. The wine list is impressive and if you are unsure you can ask for a taste tester of any wines by the glass. The wait staff are professional, polished and unobtrusive.

The venue has a main bar (you can eat in there too) with a more formal and elegant dining room to the side. The outside building is beautiful and the decor and ambience typically Melbourne so a must-see for any visitor to this city. When we visited there were locals, international guests and a few famous people thrown in the mix. I'll definitely be bringing our overseas friends here when they arrive in March, a good excuse to visit this wonderful place again!

“Hugely disappointing - should have closed over holiday period.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2011

A post Christmas booking but nevertheless standards should not have dropped so low. For reputation they should have given the restaurant a break. At booking was not advised the main restaurant would not be functioning so arrived to a corner cafe setup in the main wine bar. Waiters were completely disinterested and seemed to resent having to work. Wine experience was a farce. Waiter forgot we'd ordered and main cellar expert not working. Initial bottle (($300+ French reisling) was undrinkable and accepted back. Replacement order could not be found and confusion about whereabouts in cellar of subsequent orders. Fifteen minutes after ordering first course, advised two selections not available. Suckling pig main was ordinary tough roast pork. Other mains undistinguished. Grateful for a free desert wine offered by the one caring waiter. Obviously never again and would not recommend on our experience (four people).

OMG! the spatchcock was delicate and tasty and the pine-nut salad was tangy and perfectly suited to the flavour of the bird....who am I kidding...one of the best meals I have ever had. Prices are OTT for little old me. thanks Vic and Olga for a lovely memorable evening!!
