“Subpar service, super expensive, gave us food poisoning”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We did a tasting menu, vegetarian and non vegetarian menus. Eight courses, 3 hours and I cannot remember a single dish we had that was memorable. Our server was brusque, unfriendly, and seemed rushed. Atmosphere was cramped and sterile. To top it off 3/4ths of our party suffered from food poisoning during the night. Thankfully it passed quickly and did not affect the rest of our stay. Based on the super expensive price, poor service, and sterile atmosphere, I would say this was the worst meal during our trip. I definitely would not recommend it to anyone unless they like wasting money.

“Brightened up a Melbourne Winter day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

Getting to a restraunt in torrential rain is always a challenge, but the welcome from the maitre'd when we walked in the door calmed the group and set the tone for a long enjoyable business lunch. Started with an excellent spanner crab dumpling, followed by a superb wild Barramundi. The wine list was enormous and overall a fantastic lunch. It was my first visit for a few years and it as encouraged me to return.

“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

We went for a special degustation meal with matching wines for a birthday dinner. The food was amazingly good, the wines were perfectly matched and the service was impeccable. It was a wonderful experience, rated 12 out of 10!

“Ezard is Expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013 via mobile

Eight courses, three plus hours and six hundred dollars later, we were left wanting. The food was pretty but three of us were up all night afterwards because it did not agree with our stomachs. The service was borderline rude and for the money it was definitely not worth it. The amuse bouche was the best course.

“Nice Food, Mediocre Atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

When we entered the restaurant the first thing we noticed was the cramped space. There were groups of three tables only 15cm apart and then a 50cm gap between each group. This made for a feeling that you were sharing your evening with the people on the table next door. Our initial table was next to a large group however after only a few minutes the waiter suggested that we move to another quieter table. This great service continued throughout the evening in a precision like manner.

The first three courses were phenomenal and comparable to Quay in Sydney however after this the quality and originality of the dishes dropped. The Barramundi was of equal standard to our local Vietnamese, the pork belly was the standard of a good restaurant, as was the duck. The dessert plate may have been big but it lacked the finese expected of a restaurant with the reputation of ezard. So for the meal we received I would say that at $500 for the two of us it was grossly overpriced especially when you consider the lack of a view and cramped seating.

Another let down was the speed at which the food was served. We had an early booking (6:15pm) and had no set out time. The first four courses came in 30 minutes along with the four matching wines. This encouraged excessive drinking and didn't allow the food to sit. We asked if it would be okay to slow down but we still managed to consume the eight courses in just over 2 hours. It was impossible to drink that quickly or process the food at such a rate and we felt that they wanted to get us out as quickly as possible so that they could seat another couple.
