Rarely do I write a review on a hometown restaurant however after our most recent dining experience I feel somewhat obliged to record a disappointment.
As residents of Melbourne CBD for almost 15 years, this iconic Melbourne institution is and has been a long favourite more often for a late brunch, coffee or a drink than an evening meal.
Regrettably our evening meal last Saturday night left us somewhat feeling the establishment was fading.
With an unbeatable location, this restaurant compensates for its sometimes erratic service and well overpriced wine list ( try and find a reasonable bottle under $75) with its signature dish of Chateaubriand for two which was until now outstanding in all respects - value, quality and presentation.
Some fool however has changed the structure , style and content to something far less less than outstanding - whilst traditional dishes at certain restaurant can't be expected to last forever, to serve this dish without any bearnaise sauce or jus seriously undermines a great meal.
A must visit restaurant in Melbourne only when they restore this old favourite !
