We stayed at the Caroline Apartments for 4 nights with our 3 year old daughter. We booked and paid for a one bedroom apartment but were pleasantly surprised that we had been upgraded to a large 2 bedroom apartment upon arrival. We thank the management for this. There are some positives and negatives to this accommodation which I have outlined below, but overall a great stay in Melbourne in a brilliant location.
Positives - The location is sensational. Great train and tram options and within walking distance to Toorak Road and Chapel Street (shopping and cafe/bar hubs). The apartments have a beautiful ambience and are well appointed with all necessities (except for no shampoo, conditioner or body products etc so pack your own).
Negatives - There is no elevator so travelling with kids means hoisting all the luggage and a stroller up 2 or 3 flights of stairs (and if you are in and out this is a few times per day). This was not the easiest, but we managed OK. The apartments are old, so you can hear pipes and plumbing in the walls which can annoy you if you are a light sleeper. The ceiling in our daughters room sprung a leak, although to be fair management did come and do maintenance when we alerted them. Our apartment was not serviced at all during a 4 night stay and towels only replaced on our last day (no towel service on weekends).
We definitely had a pleasant stay and would stay at The Caroline Apartments again without a doubt. The negatives are minor but I just wanted to share my experience so other travellers with children knew of some of the pitfalls.
If you do stay I cannot recommend French Fantasties, a gorgeous cafe up the street, highly enough! Great coffee and pastries. Another reccomendation is Two Birds and One Stone in Claremont Street South Yarra (a 5 minute walk) - best breakfast I have ever had!
