Perhaps I was having a bad day or something, but I thought most things at St. Kilda Beach were a little depressing and overrated. It was overcast and very windy, the beach stank of rotting seaweed, the water was brown with algae, and the sand was full of pebbles and dead seaweed. Luna Park looked kind of old and tired. The roads and buildings around St. Kilda itself were a bit of an unmaintained eyesore. Sorry to all the proud locals - I was expecting a pretty, clean, fun strip of beach to have a waddle in, but instead I got a pebbly, smelly beach with oil tankers and factories in the backdrop... not exactly romantic. Not sure why others have rated this place so highly... but obviously the place has a different affect on others, so treat this review as subjective!
