St Kilda is conveniently located and can be reached by tram from CBD Melbourne within half an hour. The beach is not too crowded when we visited in September. Yet, unlike the Dockland area in CBD Melbourne, all the restaurants are open and we have a wide variety of restaurants to choose from. Frankly speaking, the views of the beach are not particularly stunning but there is a bonus to see some penguins if you arrive there at the right time. One shortcoming is that there are not sufficient signage to direct visitors to the main beach and we have got off at the wrong tram stop and have to walk a long distance to reach the more beautiful one. We suggest that visitors get off at the Luna Park stop if they mainly wish to visit the beach.
