“Excellent short stay in Alto on Bourke”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

This cute hideaway in the centre of Melbourne City is a truly amazing place to stay for business, pleasure or both. Counter staff were especially courteous and went out of their way to ensure that our stay is both pleasant and enjoyable. My family and I (3 grown up girls) came to Melbourne for the MBA Graduation (both of my younger girls) at Victoria University. We arrived earlier than the 2PM check in; we were given free coffee and access to the relaxation room with massage chairs! In fact, our apartment was ready much earlier than the 2PM. Room was really clean and shower was amazing! Will definitely choose Alto the next time around!

Stay 1 night in May 2013. Decent sized, clean and modern looking room with free wi-fi. Courteous, polite and helpful front desk staff. Booked through hotels.com with yummy hot breakfast provided. Conveniently located, within walking distance to Southern Cross Station. However, need to walk a little to the nearest free City City Tram stop.

Just returned from four nights at the Alto. Excellent location, easy walking distance to everything in the main centre plus Docklands and South Bank. Very comfortable accommodation, we had a two bedroom / two bath with kitchenette (which didn't get used!). Beds were very comfortable, linen crisp and the room was very clean. Very quiet property as well given its central location.

Really appreciated the free Wi-Fi and unfortunately, we didn't get to use the relaxation room but it looked comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

The Alto is a little gem of a hotel which is not only green but handy to public transport and within walking distance of everything in the CBD. I stayed 5 nights in a studio room while attending a conference. Having a kitchenette was handy and the room (and the rest of the hotel) was quiet, clean and comfortable. And as a bonus, wifi was complimentary! My room had breakfast included and while the continental buffet selection was small, being able to select a delicious made-to-order hot item from the menu was a pleasant surprise and much appreciated.

Loved the Alto on Bourke - super convenient location, walking distance to the Markets, Fed Square etc and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Free wifi a bonus for the teenagers! Wish we were there longer to try the massage room and go to the gym! Would definitely stay here again when visiting Melbourne!

We have just stayed three nights at The Alto having come to Melbourne to see a show. The hotel is in a convenient location, only a few minutes walk from Sothern Cross station. There is a tram stop just out front with a number of different routes. A wide selection of restaurants, food outlets, convenience stores, bars and supermarkets are within walking distance including the Queen Victoria markets. The hotel itself was spotless with modern rooms. We stayed in a studio queen on level three. No problems with noise. The hotel, whilst reasonably busy, was quiet overall. Bed was very comfortable and room a decent size. Our included breakfast had many choices available all including a continental buffet. Breakfast service on the last day was very slow, however all other days were fine and the hotel appeared busier than the other days. Overall an excellent establishment at a decent price for a CBD hotel. I would recommend this hotel to people staying in Melbourne and stay here again.

Hotel is very close to where the airport bus docks. Easy to walk round the city. The rooms are not cheap, and I was aware the called the room we booked a petite Queen, but tripping over the luggage rack at the end of the bed is just a little too small for me I'm afraid. Can't fault it otherwise, but I will look for a larger room for the prices this hotel charges next time.

True our Petite rooms are compact yet they have all you need including free WiFi which is thankfully becoming a little more common in Australian hotels yet many still charge $20+ per day. Our Studios offer more space or of course our 1 bedroom apartments offer separate lounge with galley style kitchen and lounge room.

We like to think we offer good value by offering complimentary espresso coffee in our guest lounge as well as fresh fruit for our guests to stay healthy and the relaxation room with therapeutic grade automatic massage chairs plus the library for book magazines and newspapers, if you have not had a paper delivered to your door.
