“Classiest and Nicest Hotel We've Ever Stayed At.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

My husband and I splurged on staying at the Langham Melbourne for 4 nights during a 5 week visit in Australia. From the staff working the car park, the bell staff, desk staff and even the maids, everyone was professional, friendly and absolutely lovely to us. Our room was large, tastefully decorated and clean. We also had a great view of the city from our floor.

The front desk staff was most helpful whether they were booking a tour of the Melbourne Gaol for us, giving us directions, or even helping us figure out how to get some laundry done. Messages for us were delivered promptly. When they found out found out that we were celebrating Christmas in Australia, our first anniversary and a 30th birthday, we came back to our room to find 2 pieces of cake waiting for us. The nightly turn down service was unexpected and a nice bonus as they left the next days weather forecast on a pillow so you could plan accordingly!

The location is just across the river from lots of the downtown sights and near the botanical gardens. We only had to take the city trains/buses twice during our whole stay since the walk was so easy and enjoyable. Free internet is available in the lobby, you just need to ask the front desk for the daily pass code; the lovely is grand and beautiful, so there are worse places to check your email!

The hotel out does the Fairmonts and other 'high class' chains of the world and anyone I know going to Melbourne will be encouraged to splurge and indulge for a few nights at this hotel.

Thank you Langham, for treating us so well and making our stay magical.

We flew into Melbourne to join a Tauk tour and were very pleased with this hotel. It is first class all the way, from the robes/slippers to turn-down service with chocolates. The lobby and entrance area was impressive -- reminds me of Parisian five-star hotels. The Melba restaurant has one of the most impressive buffets with almost everything I tried "finger-smacking" good. I would recommend this hotel to all of my friends.

We recently stayed at the Langham for a wedding anniversary. From start to finish it was absolutely wonderful. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The service was impeccable, and the turndown service made us feel very spoilt!
The High Tea was great and the buffet at Melba was the best buffet I had ever had, particularly freshly prepared sashimi and delectable bite size desserts. We only ate at the restaurant once for dinner and once for breakfast as there were so many other great restaurants within a stone's throw for us to try.
The location is fantastic for exploring Melbourne and the ferry to Williamstown leaves right out the front. If you want to catch some entertainment, Hamer Hall is a five minute walk and Federation Square about ten minutes. The hotel has wonderful views, we were glad to have chosen a corner room to really appreciate the vista.
The only downside would be that the swimming pool, although beautifully located and well supplied with lounges and towels etc, seems a bit in need of a face lift, but the Langham seems to have such attention to detail that I am sure they are already onto it!
Cannot wait to get back again to this lovely hotel and vibrant city!

Room Tip: Corner room had a great view of the river in both directions and is also at the end of a corridor so...

My husband and I were staying in Langham hotel in Melbourne for 7 nights. From the very moment we arrived to the hotel we were amazed with hospitality, super quick check-in, great breakfast and clean, cozy room!
All the staff members were very nice and helpful. We would recommend this hotel to everyone!

Stayed in Jan this year. Paid £860 for two nights to stay in a deluxe room. The room was nice. Food was ridiculously expensive.
But for that price, they still charged us $4.85 a night to have WiFi in our room! Ridiculous.
We spoke to the management but they were totally unsympathetic.
Sorry Langham, you've lost us and our friends as customers.

Room Tip: Could no it have breakfast as it was around $48 per person. So we ate at one of the many excellent b...

Took the Wife away for one night to celebrate a combined Wedding Anniversary/early Valentines/Babymoon & a Birthday Present for her. The purpose of the visit was to spend 24 hours by ourselves, without interruption, just relaxing using on demand movies and Room Service. We chose the Langham based on its location, its potential views and its reviews on Tripadvisor and acquired the Wish upon a Star Package which included valet parking, 2 glasses of complimentary champagne and Breakfast. Our expectations were met and exceeded especially as our booking was upgraded to a Club Terrace Room, which included a open aired Terrace the size of our interior room!! We had perfect weather which meant the Terrace saw great use for our stay.

The furnishings and complementary extras are all worthy of a five star hotel. The Nespresso machine was a pleasant addition. We both found the furnishings comfortable, including the outside furniture. Room layout was well thought out, (able to watch TV from the King size Bed.) Soundproofing was perfect, slide open the door to the balcony and the roar of the CBD was there, slide it closed and you were in your own cone of silence.

After a brief visit to the nearby food court (Southbank) and a review of the Room Service menu, particularly pricing, we decided not to bother with the Room Service. The pricing just could not be justified. $AUD 10 minimum spend and then $AUD 7 delivery charge?? For Room Service, even 5 star it seems excessive, my personal view is that a Hamburger should not cost a total of $AUD 34. Based on our experience with Breakfast I'm sure it would have been a great Hamburger but the price made it just a bit too much to stomach :) .

We still went ahead with the On demand Movies (again, possibly over priced at $16.95 a movie) and enjoyed the films while watching the Melbourne skyline at night through the large windows.

Based on previous Tripadvisor reviews I was looking forward to the Breakfast Buffet and found, quite pleasantly, that it met the hype. Crepe & Pancake Bar, Eggs (including Omelettes) made to order at the Buffet (-so not sitting in a Bay Marie), a wide variety of fresh foods all of it tasty and a great start to the day. Honestly, probably the best Breakfast Buffet I have encountered. Apparently it would cost $AUD 40 a head ($20 for a child) and considering the range & quality of foods on offer and the service received I think this is value(as opposed to Room Service charges).

The service received throughout was professional, courteous and responsive. Every interaction with a staff member was a friendly and welcoming one. From staff member who checked us in to the staff member who took us through the room's amenities to the staff member who checked us out, throughout our stay the staff met the 5 star expectation of service.

I did spend $5 for 24 hour Wifi access limited at 200 MB for my ipad (for social networking purposes - okay boasting!!) and found it acceptable although it did drop out several times mostly in the morning and I needed to reconnect each time. Not critical, not even annoying (it always reconnected)but I mention it for those for whom the Internet is a requirement in this day and age.

We left the Langham relaxed and with our expectations fulfilled.

I would state that the Langham would probably make more revenue if they re-looked at the pricing of their In Room Dining. Especially a Delivery Charge which just seems excessive for food coming up a lift. But access to the nearby food court solves all those concerns.

Room Tip: Get a River View Room.

The Langham Hotel was total elegance from the first moment you walk through the doors. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful and quite professional. Our room was available to check into with no waiting. We had a beautiful panoramic view of the Yarra River and city from our room. The room itself was a bit small however extremely clean and elegantly decorated. Our bed was quite comfortable and a variety of toiletries were available in the bathroom. A spa was in the hotel however I did not utilize the services. My husband and I were there the same time as the Austrlalian Open which was within walking distance from the hotel. We had previously arranged an all day wine tour through a comany called Vine Trekker (www.vinetrekker.com) with an awesome guide named Stephen, who picked us up at the hotel. The Langham is in a beautiful location on the Yarra River and surrounded by lots of activity, shopping and restaurants! I highly recommend this 5 star hotel!
