“Fantastic location and staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

Loved this hotel as the staff went out of there way to help me get my camera back after leaving it in a cab. We did manage to get it back and all thanks to about 4 staff there who made it happen.
The room was great and the balcony was massive (there are only about a dozen with balconies). Centrally situated on the south-bank of the river with lot's on new cool restaurants around it.
I think this is really good value for money given that it is 5 star and the staff are definately 6 star. Definately going back there next February.

Room Tip: Go for the ones near the top wwith the large balcony

My mother, two sisters and myself decided to stay at the beautiful Langham to have some "Girl Time". What we experienced was nothing short of delightful. The staff were courteous and friendly and pointed out all the wonderful features included in The Langham Club. The Club itself had a cosy atmosphere, delicious snacks, food and beverage and again wonderful staff who catered to our every whim. Whilst we chose to have breakfast in The Melba Restaurant we returned to the club to have coffee again and were warmly welcomed. On top of this, the rooms had the most comfortable beds and were well appointed and spotless. Late checkout gave us the opportunity to experience the lovely market at the Arts Centre. We would love to stay here again and know that we would not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Langham Club access is well worth considering.

I had a generally pleasant stay at the Melbourne Langham recently. The room is first class and service, generally good. The location on the south bank is perfect. Restaurant options in the hotel are limited though the precinct has plenty to offer.

There were niggling irritations though. The first version of the bill included a valet parking charge that I did not know anything about. Also, the internet charge was added despite being advised at the time of checking in that it is not a separately chargeable item. The items were removed after I brought them to the attention of the generally responsive staff. My gripe is that one should not have to do this in a top class five-star hotel!

We were looking forward to staying at the Langham as everyone said it was one of the best hotels in Melbourne. Maybe we have been spoilt with our other stays, but it seemed tired, the pool was not clean and no one was around to look after you. The staff although good did not treat you as anything special. It seemed like a business hotel, though as such would not have expected to have to pay for wi-fi which you do. All in all not the standard we would expect for the money. We will probably try somewhere else if we go back to Melbourne.

Thank you for your review. I apologise for your pool experience and will ensure that your comments are actioned. The pool area has a salt water lap pool and Spa hot tub bath. We do not have lifeguards but the Chuan Spa reception area is always manned to satisfy guest requests. We do provide limited complimentary internet access in our Business centre and our Perfectly Langham package includes breakfast and internet/wifi access throughout the hotel. Please mention this when booking and our reservations team will be happy to assist. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Had the pleasure of staying two nights back in early February. It was my 60th birthday celebration. Nothing was too much trouble. Great attention to detail. The service was excellent - the room had an fantastic view of the Yarra River and city skyline. Late checkout was a bonus. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Request a river view room

This is our second visit to the Langham and not my hotel of choice for Melbourne however the location is excellent. Reason being is that the style of the hotel doesn't suit my taste being rather "old worldy". The Bathrooms are very dark. in particular the shower is not well lit but the amenities good. The room size is much like any other hotel so nothing remarkable. There is no outdoor pool which for an Australian summer is disappointing and the sun baking deck is just scorching during this time and not at all pleasant as there is no shade to escape to. Getting a spa appointment was also not possible - perhaps the hotel was busy as it was the first week of the Australian Open Tennis? In my opinion the breakfast buffet was also unremarkable, it was more than adequate but nothing special to set it apart from any other 5 star business hotel. The Doormen at this hotel always have a smile on their faces and are a shining light for this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view room - the others aren't great.

Thank you for your review and your repeat visit. The Langham Melbourne is known for its classic charm and elegant décor. We are pleased you found the doormen to be such a great ambassadors for the hotel – we will ensure that they are told of your review. The Spa is very popular and we do recommend early bookings. We do hope that when you return you will have the opportunity to avail yourself of the Chuan Spa’s many fine services.

I had stayed here going on nearly 4 years ago (See previous review) and was delighted when for my 30th birthday my sister and brother in law bought me an accomodation voucher and paid for me to have a night here. I had 12 months to use the voucher (being that my birthday was back in August) and decided to use it in February.

Sat Feb 11 i organised an overnight stay, in a Grand Classic room (tier above the classic/basic room) checking out on Sunday Feb 12. All up the package was $340 and included buffet breakfast in Melba Restaurant.

I checked in and found the woman very friendly and personable, The doormen were also very approachable. I was issued Room 2016 on the 20th floor, it had a side view of the Yarra River, And you could also see over the top of the Travelodge Hotel all the way to South Melbourne Beach!

The room was spacious with luxury fittings, It had a LCD big screen tv, about 25 channels with a mixture of freeview and Foxtel cable tv, The bed was SO comfortable, it had an Ipod docking station and the walls seemed well soundproofed.

In the bathroom it had a seperate bathtub and shower, some good Chuan Spa tolietries, and cute little amenity kit which contained your usual hotel thoroughfare such as toothbrush, shaving kit, etc but it also contained things like talcum powder which had a musk smell to it.

I used the pool and spa in Chuan Spa on Level 9, The pool is beautifully appointed (and indoors with a huge see through skylight so you can enjoy it no matter what the weather outside). The pool was heated and the temperature was JUST right! The spa was nice and hot and quite large, it could probably fit 10 to 15 people which was just as well! I used it twice over the 2 days i was there and it was always full of people!

They have a HUGE outdoor patio leading off from the pool with deckchairs, perfect to dry off and take in the skyline of melbourne.

The morning i checked out (Check out is 12pm which was great, no need to hurry!) i wandered down to breakfast at melba, The food is buffet style but with personal chef's standing at their respective stations and they will cook what you want as you wait (E.g. Pancakes, Bacon & Eggs, Omelettes etc)

i had the pancakes with cream and Blueberry compote, Very yummy! At the juice bar you had about 10 choices! I had guava and it tasted freshly squeezed, it was delicious.

Checkout was smooth and friendly again. I've decided from now on whenever i have international friends visiting i will make sure i take them here for a night. it's close to everything and has some great restaurants around. I had dinner with some friends at a place called left Bank on Southbank on Sat night, it was quite good and the other restaurant i'd recommend is meat & wine co. (Both opposite crown casino end)

You're also near flinders street station which can take you just about anywhere in the city, I'd recommend as a local for eating Lygon St Carlton (Our version of Little Italy) Brunswick St Fitzroy (Very bohemiam and some great architecture) Acland/Fitzroy St's St Kilda, or for a more local experience take the belgrave/lilydale line train from Flinders ST and get off at Camberwell, You'll be on Burke Rd, it has some great restaurants/cafe's and is a very beautiful suburb!
