“Great service, great food, great hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2011

This hotel chain was new to me. It was a surprise to me that it was five star as it had been booked for my work conference and I had no idea this was the case. I was impressed by the smell and look of the front entrance. I know when I say smell people are like.. what?? But the entrance always contained the distinct smell of flowers.

The hotel room although nothing amazing spectacular was simple and contained more personal condiments and luxury items than almost all chains and hotels that I had stayed in. Although the hotel altogether possessed a slightly more feminie tone, this did not in any way affect it negatively.

The linen was clean and comfortable making for a great sleep. Entertainment was good as the movies were up to date and the channels on offer always made for a decent viewing when bored. When TV was first used the movie buying option cause a few problems and had to call reception. However, the staff were exceptional in dealing with the issue promptly and keeping me in the loop the whole way through of the status as well as to remove any charges associated.

Tried the room service and this was not too bad. Although the menu left a little bit to desire in descriptions as well as overall choice, the food was not too bad and wait times both times were no more than 30 mins as is to be expected.

The restaurant for breakfast though was magnificent. From all the regular amenities you expect from a five star chain eg. chef making custom ordered eggs there were also some added pleasures from chocolate fondue to a block of honey comb ready to be chiselled out by guests.

Overall I enjoyed my stay and have no problems recommending it to anyone looking for a beautiful hotel to stay in the Southbank district looking for great service, food and a luxury and will have no problems in saying I will stay their again!

Room Tip: Try get a room facing the river and the city.

We stayed for one night in a river club corner room which had great views accross the Yarra River and Federation Square. The room was somewhat dated, however the bed was extremely comfortable, in fact better than most 5 star hotels i have stayed in anywhere. Service was non existent at valet parking but room service was excellent in particular Anthony in food & beverage who organised some champayne in our room. A complimentary slice of birthday cake also appeared which was a lovely touch. Breakfast in the club lounge was just ok, we arrived late, maybe this was the reason, but our coffee was really bad, so bad we had to go downstairs to a cafe to find some decent coffee, really inexcuseable in a 5 star hotel in melbourne. Location is great though for restaurants in crown etc.

Thank you for your thoughts. I do apologise that you found the coffee in our Club and the valet parking service to be sub-standard, which we will rectify. However I am pleased that you found Anthony’s service to be noteworthy and we will pass this on to him. We have embarked on a renovation process and we would be happy to assist with your next booking so that you have the chance to try one of our new Grand rooms.

Every attention is paid to detail to make your stay in this sumptuous hotel a memorable experience. Its location on the bank of the river Yarra close to the city centre is ideal. The restaurant menus for the buffets both at breakfast and dinner are very varied and all the food was absolutely delicious.

My husband and I recently stayed for a night at the Langham Hotel for our Anniversary and came away wanting more! We could not fault this hotel, it's service or staff all were excellent.
If you are wanting a hotel in an excellent position on the Yarra, well fitted generously sized rooms and friendly staff that make you feel your really welcome then I strongly suggest you try here.
We booked the Club Classic Room King with the Langham Hotel Club Access which really made a difference to our stay.
We will definietly be making this hotel our regular city stop over.

It dawned on my wife and I that Melbourne is the only Australian capital city where we stay in a hotel rather than an apartment. The reason for this is The Langham. It is everything a five star hotel should be: luxurious, stylish, well-appointed rooms and public areas; excellant, friendly, polite service; and with those extra touches such as turn down service, complimentary water and concierge service. For us there is only one place to stay in Melbourne when it is just the two of us. If there is a better hotel in Australia we'd like to know about it.

Room Tip: Worth paying for city and river views

On arrival, we were met with a brilliant smile & warm welcome plus a room upgrade when we admitted the stay was to celebrate an anniversary. The room, as usual, was luxurious, all amenities provided and spotlessly clean. If there was a small cloud on the horizon, it was that we had to seek alternate dining, as the buffet at $79.95 each, was over our budget for the weekend. Breakfast was included in our package so that at least gave us a chance to enjoy the ambience of the restaurant. Even bought the Langham Room Spray so we could mentally extend our stay. Thank you Langham Team! You Rock!!!

I have stayed at the Langham previous time over the past few years and have always rated it 5 star in every aspect. I stayed here again in April 2011 and am very impressed with the elegant, classy, practicle refurbishment of the rooms and rebranding (the pink and gold). Love the little gift shop - gorgeous gifts and presentation. Cleanliness, service and in room amenities are 5+ star and I definately will be staying here again next time im in Melbourne!
